Student answer (Band 6.0)
Driverless vehicles have become increasingly common in recent years. While this trend offers certain benefits, it also presents significant drawbacks. In my view, the disadvantages outweighs the advantages, since the human will not have any control on the car which can results in certain problems.
On the on hand, driverless vehicles offers several notable benefits. Firstly, it will allow the passenger to not to worry about traffic congestions, the driving rules, speed limits, lane changes, and other things. Consequently, allowing the passenger to focus on the more important and creative work or the work needs more attention. Moreover, since the vehicle is not operated by human and everything is taken care by a machine which operates on pre-defined rules, there is less to no chance of getting speed tickets and parking tickets.
On the other hand, there are certain drawbacks to consider. Initially, since the machine is not capable enough to have cognitive thinking, it will not be able to take decision in a situation which is not pre-defined to it or not in its memory. This can engender the trust issues as the machine will not be able to take decision in a situation which is already fed in its system and may get into serious accidents leaving the passengers in an alarming situation. Furthermore, the human will not be able to feel the vehicle as it is considered the true connection between vehicle and a man, taking their life decisions in their hand and make a strong bond unnatural bond between a human and the vehicle.
In conclusion, while the driverless vehicle has certain advantages, the drawbacks are more substantials. Provided that the unnatural connection between human and a vehicle and the trust issues, the disadvantages clearly outweighs the benefits. Ultimately, there is still debate going on between people; however, majority are not in the favour of driverless automated vehicles.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. Relevant ideas are presented, such as productivity gains for passengers and safety risks caused by a lack of human control and cognitive thinking in unexpected situations. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the points regarding passengers focusing on creative work are well explained, but the argument concerning the unnatural connection between humans and vehicles is somewhat repetitive and under-developed. To reach a higher level, all main ideas would need to be extended with deeper analysis and more concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear overarching progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a distinct side of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, seen in awkward transitional phrases like 'On the on hand' and repetitive referencing patterns. While the response fully meets the criteria for a solid organizational structure, it incorporates some minor cohesive errors that prevent it from achieving a higher level of seamless flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'cognitive thinking', 'traffic congestions', and 'engender the trust issues'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word formation, such as 'the disadvantages outweighs' (subject-verb agreement error classified under grammar, but word choice issues like 'substantials' and 'in the favour' appear here). Spelling and word choice errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument easily, but they reflect a typical profile where vocabulary is sufficient rather than precise or sophisticated.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'the disadvantages outweighs' instead of 'outweigh', 'since the vehicle is not operated by human' missing an article, and 'allow the passenger to not to worry'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move further up the scale, the writer would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences with tighter control over articles and agreement.
