Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

First, it must be noted that the response is only 93 words long, which severely falls short of the minimum requirement of 250 words. Because of this extreme under-length, the task is only addressed in a very minimal and fragmentary way. The student attempts to state a position ('the benefits of driverless outweigh rather than drawbacks'), but the ideas are severely limited and left completely underdeveloped. There is no real extension of arguments or provision of relevant examples. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to expand the essay significantly, offering fully developed paragraphs with well-supported arguments addressing both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response shows some basic structural organisation, including an introductory paragraph and a partial attempt at a body paragraph marked by a transition phrase ('On the one hand'). However, there is no clear overall progression across the text because it is cut short after only a few sentences. Cohesive devices are minimal and somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is attempted, but the text lacks the logical development and cohesive flow required for higher bands. To improve, the writer needs to structure the essay with a clear introduction, distinct body paragraphs exploring specific points with appropriate logical connectors, and a concluding summary.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring everyday words and phrases such as 'people', 'vehicles', 'driverless', and 'future'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'Some individual' instead of 'Some individuals', 'peolple arr present' instead of 'people are present', and 'banafits as compare to challenges' instead of 'benefits compared to challenges'. These errors reflect a limited control of word forms and spelling. To move up to a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire to include less common academic vocabulary, ensure correct word formation, and use precise collocations appropriate for an essay on transport technology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent structural flaws. There are noticeable grammatical and punctuation errors throughout, such as missing articles ('In my opinion is that'), incorrect subject-verb agreement or auxiliary usage ('all other travelling service are should be automated'), and spelling issues. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader in grasping the intended meaning. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures while improving grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb forms, auxiliary verbs, and article usage.
