Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern developing era, it is often argued that in the upcoming era there will be only driverless car on the road such as car, bushes and truck and there will be only passengers who can travel. I strongly believe that this development has far more merits than its de-merits and it will be discussed in the upcoming paragraphs.

There are range of benefits for this upcoming development. One of the key reason is convenient commute. To detail it out, if this invention happens in the future so it will become very easy for the commuters to travel and this also allow them to do their work while travelling or just sit and relax. Moreover, it is not essential for the individuals to learn the driving., they have to just choose the place in the map where they want to travel instead. Furthermore, there will be no noise pollution on the roads such as the continuous horns and heavy traffic jams and also it reduce the chance of accidents.

Another key reason is cost efficient. To elaborate this, if there will be driverless car there is no need to hire a driver to drive the car. Additionally, policy makers also don't need to hire a driver instead they can spend the money on the conveniency for the easy commute.

Despite the advantages, there are some disadvantages. First and foremost drawback is software error. To put in other words, if in middle of the roads the system error erupts there will be high chance of accidents and beside it the commute become very difficult for the commuter that don't know driving.

Conclusively, there is one major drawback for this development which is software errors. However, i believe this development has many benefits for the commuters such as easy travel, reduction of noise pollution and cost efficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both advantages and disadvantages, and a clear position is stated in the introduction that the merits outweigh the demerits. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the advantage regarding convenience and noise pollution is mentioned but relies on repetitive phrasing rather than deep extension, such as 'convenient commute' and 'To detail it out'. The counter-arguments are somewhat limited, mentioning mainly software errors and commuters who cannot drive without fully exploring broader societal impacts like job losses for professional drivers or infrastructure costs. To move to a higher band, the ideas need to be more fully and evenly extended throughout the body paragraphs with more precise supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

There is a coherent overall arrangement to the essay, featuring a clear introduction, separate body paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a concise conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the argument. However, the cohesion between sentences sometimes feels mechanical and repetitive, frequently relying on formulaic transition phrases such as 'To detail it out', 'Moreover', and 'To elaborate this'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the phrase 'if this invention happens in the future so it will'. Progression is visible, but the overuse of rigid signposting phrases detracts from a natural flow. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, a wider variety of referencing words and more subtle cohesive devices should be employed to link ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting some less common items such as 'policy makers', 'commuters', and 'software error'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text. Examples include 'de-merits' instead of 'demerits', 'cost efficient' instead of 'cost-efficient', 'conveniency' instead of 'convenience', and the incorrect pluralization 'car, bushes and truck' where 'cars, buses and trucks' was intended. Spelling and word-choice errors are present, but they do not seriously impede communication. To reach a higher lexical band, the writer needs to demonstrate greater precision in word choice, avoid repetitive vocabulary patterns, and ensure correct word forms and collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional clauses ('if there will be driverless car there is no need...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples of grammatical lapses include subject-verb agreement issues ('the commuter that don't know driving'), article omissions ('in middle of the roads'), and tense inconsistencies. Punctuation errors also occur, such as the stray comma and full stop combination in 'driving., they have to just'. While complex structures are attempted, they often contain minor flaws. To progress to a higher band, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate more consistent control over complex grammatical patterns, articles, and punctuation.
