Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

First, it is important to note that the response contains only 231 words, falling short of the required 250-word minimum, with 27 words copied directly from the prompt not counted towards this total. Because of this, the task is addressed only minimally. The essay attempts to discuss both the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles, but the position is repetitive and lacks sufficient extension. Ideas are limited and under-developed, such as mentioning unemployment and accidents without providing specific examples or logical support. To reach a higher level, the writer must meet the minimum word count and fully develop each main point with detailed explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text displays some basic organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, advantages, disadvantages, and conclusion. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and the flow is heavily disrupted by repetitive phrasing and inadequate or mechanical use of cohesive devices, such as repeating 'To begin with', 'Likewise', and 'In conclusion'. Reference words are sometimes unclear, and the mechanical listing of points fails to connect the arguments smoothly. To improve coherence and cohesion, the writer needs to ensure logical transitions between sentences and paragraphs, using a wider and more accurate variety of cohesive ties to guide the reader seamlessly through the arguments.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, severely limiting the range of expression. There are numerous word choice, word form, and spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'driveless', 'thsi', 'duscuss', 'thera', 'happned', 'opnion', 'inevntion', and 'serval'. These errors often strain the reader and impede clear communication. The writer relies heavily on simple terms and makes frequent unsuccessful attempts at less common vocabulary. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, learn correct spellings and word forms, and use appropriate collocations related to transportation and technology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex structures that are heavily flawed. Errors in grammar, punctuation, and tense usage are frequent and often distort the meaning of the sentences. Examples include 'In future all cars...', 'vehicles were popular in this time', and 'many country use driverless vehicles to control and accident.' Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also problematic throughout the text. To improve in this criterion, the writer needs to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, accurate verb forms, and plurals, while reducing the frequency of errors that hinder readability.
