Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Yes, To a large extent i will say advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages, but it will not overcome all of it. In future, it can not be assuemed that all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. Technology can be advanced but it can not overcome human intelligence. From the past few years of progress in technology, Elon Musk and other chinese companies are in race of making driverless cars, but they have not achieved the perfection. still there is a team of human to look after them.

In future, i think only those vehicles will be driverless which follow the specific path on daily bases or those who follow some track like train. In remote areas driverless will not be successfull, due to random occuring of events on roads and tracks.

There are the number of advantages of driverless vehicles, it will cut the human effort, it will make the transportation easy in the cities, passengers will travel in these veichles easily. In today's date, robo taxis are already working in different countries America, Japan and China. These taxis are working like uber service, people book their rides and travel with in the city. In Japan and China, driverless trains are running, in which no driver is needed to drive the train. In future it is expected to be increase of driverless vehicles, but it is not expected that all transport will be driverless due to less intelligence of AI, we can not risk human lives on machine errors. Still in machine learning, machines are more prone to errors than humans.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages overall, while thoughtfully exploring some limitations. Relevant ideas are introduced, such as the comparison between urban robotaxis and remote areas, and the limits of artificial intelligence. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the discussion on why AI cannot match human intelligence or why remote areas will not succeed lacks specific examples or deeper analysis. While the main stance is clear, the development remains somewhat general, meaning the response achieves a solid level without fully exploring the wider implications of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement and a clear position is maintained throughout the text. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by basic or faulty cohesive devices and mechanical referencing. For instance, transitional phrases between paragraphs are largely missing, and sentences like "In future, i think only those vehicles will be driverless which follow the specific path... or those who follow some track..." rely on repetitive structures rather than smooth logical links. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal flow within paragraphs feels disjointed at times. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, which prevents the writing from achieving a more fluid logical progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as "robo taxis", "machine learning", and "transportation". However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling throughout the text, including terms like "assuemed", "occuring", "veichles", and "successfull". The use of phrasing such as "cut the human effort" or "in today's date" demonstrates a restricted control of natural collocations. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede overall communication, they prevent the writing from demonstrating a more flexible or precise range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional or concessive clauses. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Issues include missing capitalisation ("i", "america"), faulty article usage ("in race of making", "in future it is expected to be increase"), and awkward prepositional patterns. Furthermore, punctuation is neglected in several places, and subject-verb agreement issues appear, such as "driverless will not be successfull". Although simple sentences are generally correct, attempts at more complex structures introduce frequent errors that disrupt the flow of reading.
