Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position throughout that the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages. Ideas are extended and supported, such as discussing improved road safety through reduced human error, greater independence for elderly and disabled passengers, and environmental efficiency. However, there is a slight tendency to overgeneralise or present arguments in a somewhat repetitive manner, such as in the conclusion where points are reiterated simply without adding further extension. Nevertheless, the main tenets of the prompt are successfully covered and supported with relevant explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear logical organization and overall progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving from an introduction of the topic and the writer's stance, to safety, accessibility, disadvantages, counterarguments, and a final conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One major advntages', 'Another benefit', 'However', and 'Despite these concerns' are used reasonably flexibly to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating distinct ideas into logical blocks, though some transitions could be smoother and referencing is occasionally slightly mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'accessibility', 'congestion', and 'malfunction'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'ans' instead of 'and', 'advntages', 'riad', 'disadvanteges', 'comupter', 'loss' instead of 'lose', 'effects' instead of 'affect', and 'oppourtunitis'. Word choice and word form errors, such as 'monitering' and 'tacelling', are also present and occasionally cause minor distraction for the reader, placing the lexical range firmly in the mid-level band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambitious attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'People who cannot drive such as, elderly and disable passengers, may be able to travel more independently.' However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('driverless vehicles are create', 'advantages... are could improve'), missing articles ('a number of accidents'), preposition usage, and run-on structures ('Whicn may help reduced a number of accidents'). These errors are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader at times, limiting the structural accuracy to this level.
