Student answer (Band 5.5)

We travelled easily through different places due to technology as compared to travelled in past. By increasing the technology the hope for driverless cars is also increased and people think we will travelled in future without drivers. I think it has both merits and demerits. I will discuss the both then give my own opinion.

To begin with, many people face difficulties while travelling due to the lostage of drivers. For example the most quantity of women of my country cannot drive the cars and they need drivers for their travelling. In addition, the drivers also cost to much which increased the cost of travelling. In our country the drivers have their own pakages and the government did not have rstrictions on it. Furthermore, many drivers did not have license which cause different accidents. While driving a person can spend their time in other usefull way them spending it on driving. The driverles cars make the transportation more easily. We travelled to long distances by these cars. It is also beneficial for those people who are disable and did not drive the cars like the person who are blind can also travelled easily.

On the hand, it also have some negatives like the chances of accident increased with driverless cars. For example if the car has a fault in any part then they may cause accident. Secondly, the driving of cars is the main source for earning money and after these cars they cannot earn money.

To conclude, in future the cars are replaced with driverless cars and which makes transportation easy. I would say that the companies may work on driverless cars because its benefits outweigh its negatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer attempts to discuss both advantages and disadvantages, the position is not always clearly maintained, and ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding women and disabled individuals needing drivers touches upon a relevant advantage, but it lacks sufficient extension and concrete supporting details. Similarly, the counter-arguments concerning accidents and loss of employment are mentioned rather than fully explored. To move higher, the writer needs to present a clearer stance throughout and extend all main ideas with well-developed explanations and specific examples rather than relying on brief assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, placing it at the band six level. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the advantages in the second paragraph and disadvantages in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, with awkward transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'In addition', and 'On the hand' (instead of 'On the other hand'). Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as ambiguous pronoun usage like 'they may cause accident'. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure that cohesive devices are used more naturally and that logical relationships between sentences are managed more smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited, displaying noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some less common terms and phrases, but encounters frequent issues with word choice, word formation, and collocations, such as 'lostage of drivers', 'cost to much', and 'pakages' instead of packages. There are also problems with parts of speech and inflections, such as 'disable' instead of disabled and 'driverles'. These lexical inadequacies keep the response constrained. To improve, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to correct word forms and spelling, and use terms more precisely in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside faulty attempts at complex ones. Frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including issues with verb forms and tenses ('we travelled in future'), subject-verb agreement ('the government did not have rstrictions'), and missing or incorrect articles and prepositions ('cost of travelling', 'cause different accidents'). These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater control, reducing basic grammatical mistakes and ensuring accurate punctuation and tense consistency.
