Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the coming decades, the only individuals who will travel in cars, buses and trucks will be passengers because these vehicles will operate without driver. Although, driverless vehicles can be expensive, it can effectively reduce the risk of road accidents. In my opinion, these vehicles operating on public roads will be beneficial despite the challenges they may inevitably face.

One of the main advantage is that driverless vehicles can prevent any major collision on roads. Human beings have been driving for many years, but every year, the number of road accidents are caused by a human error. While, the cars, buses and trucks which will operate without any driver might reduce the risk of a crash because the system in those vehicles is designed in a way that will help passengers reach their destination safely. For example, People who have the habit of using phones constantly while driving automobiles may become passengers by switching to self-driving vehicles without risking their lives. Therefore, the driverless cars will play a significant role in safety of the passengers, preventing any occurrence of a major event due to reckless driving.

The major drawback that people might face is the financial burden while purchasing and operating driverless automobile. The buying cost and charging cost using electricity will ultimately put pressue on individuals. For instance, the increasing cost of driverless motor vehicles around the world has forced people to use public transport which is less expensive and accessible to everyone. Hence, people who value money over safety may drive conventional automobiles for life compared to those who buy driverless vehicles, saving their time and efforts.

To conclude, all cars, buses and trucks will carry passengers without needing a driver in the future. Despite mitigating the risk of road accidents and getting the privilege of becoming passenger, people might struggle financially. However, I believe safety should be the priority of every person and that is why driverless vehicles are more advantageous than traditional automobiles.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear throughout: you believe the safety benefits outweigh the financial drawbacks. You address both sides and support them with relevant examples, such as distracted drivers becoming passengers and the cost of buying and charging these vehicles. This meets the task well. To make the response more fully developed, explain the mechanisms and implications in greater depth. For example, the claim that vehicle systems will prevent major collisions is broad, and the cost paragraph could clarify whether the burden applies to private owners, public transport providers, or both. The final comparison with traditional automobiles also introduces an idea that could be linked more directly to your overall judgement. More precise development would strengthen an already clear response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the benefit and drawback, and a conclusion that restates your view. The progression from road safety to financial cost is easy to follow, and examples are generally placed where they support the relevant point. Some linking is effective, including “For example” and “To conclude,” but several transitions feel mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately. “Although” at the start of the introduction is followed by a comma and an incomplete contrast, while “While” begins a sentence that does not complete the contrast it signals. Repeated use of “Therefore” and “Hence” also makes cohesion somewhat formulaic. Use fewer signposts and make the logical links between claims more explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “driverless vehicles,” “road accidents,” “financial burden,” and “reckless driving,” so the main ideas are communicated clearly. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “mitigating the risk.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “prevent any major collision,” “charging cost,” and “privilege of becoming passenger” do not sound natural in context. Spelling errors such as “pressue” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than adding formal-sounding phrases; for example, describe vehicles as reducing the likelihood of collisions and refer to the cost of charging them. This would make your vocabulary more flexible and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in the introduction and a relative clause in “vehicles which will operate without any driver.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “One of the main advantage” needs a plural noun, and “the number of road accidents are caused” has an incorrect agreement and sentence structure. Articles and plurals are also missing in “without driver” and “becoming passenger.” Punctuation and clause construction need attention in “Although, driverless vehicles…” and “While, the cars…,” where the opening conjunctions are not used correctly. Practise checking agreement, articles, and how subordinate clauses connect to main clauses; this will improve accuracy while preserving your range.
