Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is projected that autonomous technology will entirely dominate the transportation sector in coming years ,leaving traditional driving style leaving behind. While this transition presents notable challenges regarding employment and technological errors, i believe that advantages of driverless vehicles far outwegh the disadvantagesdue to remarkable improvement in road safety and traffic efficiency.
The primary drawback of a fully automated tranit system may cause widespread economic distruption.Millions of people worldwide ear their living as taxi drivers, truckers and bus operators, as a sudden shift to driveless transportation may leed to massive loss of jobs. Additionally, reliance on digital softwares introduces risks of cybersecurity and technical glitches. A single programming issue and hacking can paralyze an entire city.
However, these concerns are significantly overshadowed by various safety benefits. The vast variet of modern road accidents are caused as a result of human error , such as distracted driving ,over speeding fatigue or operating a vehicle under the influence. By removing human emotions and errors from the equation you can overcome accidents all around the globe.
Furthermore, automated transit promises to revolutionize urban efficiency and environmental sustainability. Self driving cars ,buses can communicate with one another and with city infrastructure to optimize route and speed. This reduces smoother traffic routes and fuel cosumption should be less. Instead of driving and staring at traffic you can do other tasks like office work and sleep.
In conclusion, although the shift toautonomous vehicle will undoubtedly present initial labor challenges and technical risk, the long term benefitys are profoundly superior.By saving thousands of lives by removing human errors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion maintains this view. You address both sides by discussing job losses and cybersecurity risks before explaining the potential safety and traffic benefits. The examples of human causes of accidents and communication between vehicles and infrastructure are relevant and help extend your argument. This fits a response that addresses all parts and supports its main ideas. However, some claims are broad or not fully explained: for example, “you can overcome accidents all around the globe” does not acknowledge that automated systems may also fail, and the environmental benefit is asserted without explaining how reduced fuel consumption follows. Develop these points with more precise reasoning or an example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: the introduction states your view, the second paragraph presents disadvantages, the next two develop advantages, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “However,” and “Furthermore” make the stages easy to follow, and paragraphing is appropriate. This gives the essay a logical structure. Some connections within sentences are less clear, though. “This reduces smoother traffic routes and fuel consumption should be less” combines ideas without showing their relationship, while “By removing human emotions and errors from the equation you can overcome accidents” shifts abruptly to direct address. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and consistent referencing, and make sure the conclusion completes its final point rather than leaving it as a fragment.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “autonomous technology,” “cybersecurity,” “technical glitches,” “human error,” and “environmental sustainability.” These choices show an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary, and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, spelling errors and imprecise collocations reduce accuracy: examples include “tranit,” “distruption,” “variet,” and “benefitys,” as well as “reduces smoother traffic routes” and “fuel cosumption should be less.” Some phrases are also too general, such as “do other tasks.” Proofread carefully and choose more precise combinations, for example, explain that coordinated vehicles can “reduce congestion” and “lower fuel consumption.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a concession in “although the shift … will undoubtedly present…” and a reason clause beginning “as a sudden shift…”. The overall argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. The opening contains a repeated construction (“leaving … leaving behind”), and “The primary drawback … may cause” has an unclear subject relationship. The sentence “A single programming issue and hacking can paralyze an entire city” has faulty coordination, while the final sentence beginning “By saving thousands of lives” is incomplete. There are also inconsistent sentence boundaries and punctuation. Aim to make each sentence grammatically complete, check subject–verb relationships, and use commas and spaces consistently.
