Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, there is increasing trend of driverless machines. In the near future all vehicles such as car, buses, trucks becomes driverless. Only the passengers will travel inside the vehicle. While there are certain disadvantages associated with driverless vehicles, I would argue that the benefits considerably outweights the negative one.

Admittedly, one disadvatage of this development is that human drivers lose their job and becomes unemployed. As the driver becomes unemployed, there only source of income is gone which put him in trouble. If he the only one to earn money through driving in his family, then the whole family is financially effected because of the driverless vehicles. For example, my uncle is a driver and he lose his job because the owner buy a tesla's driverless car so he fired my uncle from job, now he is unable to pay the education fee of his son who is currently studying in class six and go through financial problem. Additionally, autonomous system are not entirely reliable. Software glitches, calculation error and cyber attack can lead to saviour accident which harms.

Nevertheless, I believe the advantages are more significant because people now focus on more interesting and important task rather than repetative task. People learn new skill which they can apply and helps in the betterment of the society. Furthermore, it remove the human error from the roads. Statistically data shows human errors is the leading cause in the accidents. Autonomous system entirely works on algorithm so they eliminate the human error completely which makes the drive more safe. Autonomous vehicles synchronize with each other and start communication which helps in traffic flow, control and management.

In conclusion, although the transition to completely driverless transport will cause job loss and introduce new vulnerabilities, these issues are managable by proper planning. The monumental improvement in public safety and systematic transporation efficiently means that the benefits of driverless vehicles clearly outweight the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear throughout: you acknowledge job losses and technical risks, then argue that safety and improved traffic management make the advantages greater. This addresses both sides of the question, and the example about your uncle gives the employment point a concrete illustration. The safety argument is also relevant, but claims such as autonomous systems eliminating human error completely are too absolute and would benefit from qualification or support. The point about people using their time for more important tasks is less fully explained: specify what passengers could do and why this is a meaningful benefit. To strengthen the response further, develop each main advantage with a precise explanation or example rather than relying on broad claims and an unsupported reference to statistics.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, separate body paragraphs consider disadvantages and advantages, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “Admittedly,” “Nevertheless,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. The progression is generally easy to follow, though some connections within paragraphs are abrupt. For example, the discussion moves from job losses to software risks without explaining how the two points relate, and the advantages paragraph shifts from new skills to road safety and then traffic flow. Use clearer topic sentences and transitions to show how each point supports the paragraph’s main idea. Some references, such as “which harms,” are also unclear because the reader cannot readily identify what is being harmed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “driverless vehicles,” “autonomous system,” “software glitches,” “cyber attack,” and “traffic flow.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the subject beyond basic everyday language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “outweights,” “disadvatage,” “saviour accident,” and “systematic transporation efficiently” are examples. There are also awkward or imprecise combinations, such as “the only source of income is gone” and “start communication.” Greater accuracy with collocations and word forms would make your meaning more precise. Build a small bank of topic phrases and check spelling and natural usage when revising, especially in the conclusion and when describing safety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a conditional sentence beginning “If he the only one to earn money…” and a concession structure in the introduction. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For instance, “all vehicles … becomes driverless” needs subject–verb agreement, while “As the driver becomes unemployed, there only source of income is gone” is missing a possessive and has an awkward clause structure. In “my uncle … he lose his job,” the verb form is also incorrect. Some sentences are long and joined without clear grammatical control. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, while retaining your attempts at complex clauses.
