Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, automatic machines and devices have become a popular practice among millions of users across the globe. In near future automobiles are expected to be driving without drivers, I view this trend as a positive step forward. However this essay will look into some of the disadvantages to be considered.
The key advantage of driverless cars and trucks is that it can reduce the number of accidents caused by the human errors. Humans beings are more likely to make mistakes when tired or not medically fit. Automatic cars are preprogrammed for routes and destinations, they work according to the instructions given to them. These driverless cars and trucks can work more efficiently without having the need for a break or rest. Moreover, they can reduce the consumption of fuel through smooth driving and can control the flow of traffic by communicating with the traffic system.
The primary concern with this approach would be the loss of driving jobs. People who are earing their bread and butter through this profession, would be jobless having no other option to consider. Another disadvantage of driverless cars is the cost. these vehicles are expensive to develop and maintain. Technical factors such as sensor problems and software require constant maintenance. Bad weather and fog can also affect their performance.
In conclusion, although driverless cars have some disadvantages , In my opinion their positives outweigh the negatives because they will improve the overall road safety and traffic congestion, making travelling more efficient and convenient.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both sides of the question and state a clear view: driverless vehicles are a positive development, with their benefits outweighing the drawbacks. Relevant advantages include fewer accidents, smoother fuel use and improved traffic flow; you also identify job losses, expense and technical or weather-related problems. This covers the task well, but the support is uneven: the safety point is explained through human fatigue and pre-programmed systems, while the claims about fuel consumption and traffic control are asserted rather than illustrated. The disadvantages also need more explanation, particularly how workers might be affected or how technical failures could create risks. To strengthen the response, develop each main point with a specific example and make the comparison between the benefits and drawbacks more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “Another disadvantage,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening says the essay will examine disadvantages, although the body gives substantial attention to advantages, and the final comparison could explain more directly why safety and efficiency outweigh job losses and costs. There are also abrupt links between claims within paragraphs. Use linking phrases to show cause, contrast and consequence, and ensure the introduction accurately previews the discussion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “preprogrammed,” “consumption of fuel,” “traffic system,” “sensor problems” and “maintenance.” This is enough to communicate the main ideas, but several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. For example, “a popular practice” does not fit machines and devices, “ear ing their bread and butter” is an awkward idiom in this formal essay, and “the flow of traffic” is better expressed as traffic flow. There are also spelling and form slips, such as “ear ing” (written as “earing”) and “Humans beings.” Aim for precise, natural academic phrasing and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the conditional idea “when tired or not medically fit” and the contrast introduced by “although.” The main message remains understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and punctuation reduce accuracy. For example, “In near future automobiles are expected to be driving without drivers” needs an article and a more natural verb construction; “the key advantage … is that it can reduce” has a singular pronoun referring to plural vehicles; and “Automatic cars are preprogrammed for routes and destinations, they work…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma. Capitalisation after full stops and commas before conjunctions also need attention. Review sentence boundaries and check that pronouns agree with their referents.
