Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the coming years all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless and the only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers. People world wide are dependent on vehicles for their commute. This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of driverless vehicles.

Driverless cars have been one of the greatest discoveries of 21 century. They have helped reduce the amount of accidents through integrated artifical intelligence systems. For example, people in China have introduced an app for individuals who want to commute after being drunk, this app would allow individuals to order a cab that can drive them home without the fear of being unsafe. This helps individuals to eliminate the risk of driving themselves home because of being drunk. Helping in overall safety and convenience. People now have a chance to avoid the risk of human interaction through these cars.

However, there have been certain speculations about the disadvantages of a driverless car. Driverless cars cannot function in cities like India due to the narrow roads and the lack of traffic sense. In several cases, unlike a human driver these data integrated car systems might not know loopholes or short cuts. These human elements could be bothersome. Malfunction in these systems could lead to risking the life of the passengers.

To recapitulate, while i believe that driverless cars buses and trucks have several advantages, the disadvantages on the other hand do not outweight them and are of utmost importance. It becomes crucial for the government to first make a well developed network of roads which are efficient for these cars, create laws and a dedicated body for the ownership and responsibilities of smooth functioning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and give a clear overall view: you consider the safety and convenience benefits, then discuss limitations involving road conditions and system failures. The example of a service for people who have been drinking helps illustrate a practical benefit. However, the position is not fully consistent: the conclusion says the disadvantages “do not outweight” the advantages, but then calls them “of utmost importance” and recommends substantial safeguards. Clarify which side you believe outweighs the other. Some points also need fuller explanation, particularly how driverless vehicles reduce accidents and why their limitations would outweigh their benefits. The response is relevant, but the comparison between advantages and disadvantages remains underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a concluding paragraph. This makes the overall line of discussion easy to follow. You also use signposting such as “However” and “To recapitulate” to mark shifts. At times, though, connections between ideas are mechanical or unclear. The sentence “Helping in overall safety and convenience” is a fragment rather than a smoothly connected explanation, and “People now have a chance to avoid the risk of human interaction” does not clearly follow from the preceding example. The conclusion also combines a contrast with a recommendation without clearly resolving your position. Develop clearer links between each claim, its explanation, and its relevance to your overall judgement.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “integrated artificial intelligence systems,” “malfunction,” “passengers,” and “dedicated body.” These choices allow you to discuss safety, technology, and regulation. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “loopholes or short cuts,” although this is not a precise description of the advantage a human driver may have. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “greatest discoveries” would be better expressed as “major technological developments,” while “data integrated car systems” is unclear. Spelling errors such as “artifical” and “outweight” are noticeable, though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the relative clause in “individuals who want to commute after being drunk” and the conditional construction “could lead to risking the life of the passengers.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are present. “Helping in overall safety and convenience” is a sentence fragment; connect it to the previous sentence. In “Driverless cars cannot function in cities like India,” the comparison is between cars and a country, so revise the structure to refer to cities in India. The conclusion also needs clearer sentence construction and consistent capitalisation of “I.” Work on complete sentences, accurate comparisons, and punctuation around longer clauses while continuing to use varied structures.
