In the future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be passengers.

Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Yes, its true that in future all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless. But in my opinion, we should not rely on these driverless verhicles. Because I am comfirtable to ride in a vehicle where there is no driver and all the pessengerss are alone there. Nobody will be there who can know about the verhicle. In any emergency situation, there will be no one who can operate vehicles if there is any error in its fuctioning. What we will do if there is nothing to do for us as a human. It will impact drivers jobs and their lifestyle. Because if a person is earning and managing all of his family expenses through that job, then what will he do after loosing his job. This is not a good invention at all. Yes, there are some advantages of driverless vehicles. But we cannot ignore its flaws and disatvantages. Because its linked with the human life and that is much more important than using a driverless vehicle for travelling. In this world, everyone is having some purpose and duties to fulfill, so he can survive in the society. So its better if everyone will take responsibility of their duty, instead of relying on AI generated vehicles. Of course it will make our life easy and we can fulfill the shortage of drivers as well. Buses will be on time and will be manage properly. But I have lived in UAE for almost 5 years and I have experienced a well managed transport. All of the work is being handled by the humans and going smoothly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you oppose relying on driverless vehicles, mainly because of safety concerns and the effect on drivers’ jobs. You also acknowledge benefits, such as addressing driver shortages and keeping buses on time, and your UAE transport experience gives a relevant example. However, the response addresses the comparison only partially: it does not clearly weigh the advantages against the disadvantages or explain why one side is more important overall. Several points, especially the emergency scenario and the impact on families, are asserted rather than developed with specific explanation or evidence. To strengthen the response, state directly that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, then develop two or three reasons and explain how your example supports that judgement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response has a recognisable line of argument, moving from safety concerns to job losses, then briefly acknowledging benefits and giving personal experience. However, ideas are not arranged into clear paragraphs, so the reader has to follow a long sequence of points without visual or logical breaks. Linking words such as “Because,” “So,” and “Of course” are repeated or used to connect ideas that need fuller explanation; for example, “Because if a person is earning…” is not integrated smoothly into the argument. The final UAE example also arrives without a clear link to the overall judgement. Use separate paragraphs for your position, disadvantages, advantages and conclusion, and make each transition show how the next point supports your answer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main concerns, including “emergency situation,” “human life,” “shortage of drivers,” and “transport.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “driverless vehicles,” “drivers,” and “job.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “verhicles,” “comfirtable,” “pessengerss,” “fuctioning,” “loosing,” and “disatvantages,” which can distract the reader. Some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “AI generated vehicles” and “there is nothing to do for us as a human.” Build a more accurate range for discussing automation, safety and employment, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use conditional structures, as in “if a person is earning and managing all of his family expenses through that job, then what will he do after…” However, the response relies heavily on simple sentence patterns, and attempts to connect clauses are often faulty or incomplete. For example, “Because I am comfortable…” and “Because if a person…” are sentence fragments, while “Buses will be on time and will be manage properly” has an incorrect verb form. There are also errors in agreement and sentence construction, such as “everyone is having some purpose” and “if everyone will take responsibility.” Practise complete clause structures, accurate verb forms and varied sentence patterns, then proofread punctuation and agreement.
