Student answer (Band 4.0)

A numerous individuals believe all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless and the only human passengers will be inside in the future. Although, in some cases human driver might be more helpful than an automatic vehical, I think the advantages of driverless transportation outweigh the disadvantages.

Undoubtedly, human driver are more suitable for critical situations, such as an emergency health situation, fire accident or crime scene where an automatic vehical can not understand the gravity of the situation. Moreover, driving creates employment for a large group of people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

You state a clear position: “the advantages of driverless transportation outweigh the disadvantages,” and you identify two relevant disadvantages—difficulty handling emergencies and the loss of driving jobs. However, the response does not explain any advantages, so it does not establish why they outweigh the disadvantages, and the ideas are only briefly mentioned rather than supported with examples or explanation. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words: it contains 81 words, with 8 words copied from the prompt excluded from the count. This leaves the task largely incomplete. To improve, develop both sides of the comparison, explain your reasoning, and include a relevant example before reaching a supported conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic, understandable sequence: it introduces your view and then gives two reasons why human drivers may be preferable in certain situations. “Moreover” signals the move to the second point, and the ideas remain related to the topic. However, the response ends abruptly after the employment point, with no developed discussion of the advantages or concluding paragraph. The opening’s “Although” clause also creates an expectation that the contrast will be explained more fully. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, each side of the argument, and the conclusion, and connect each point to your overall judgement. This would create clearer progression rather than a short list of claims.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “driverless,” “automatic,” “critical situations,” “emergency,” and “employment.” These choices make the subject clear, and “gravity of the situation” attempts to express a nuanced idea. However, the range is limited by the short response, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “A numerous individuals,” “automatic vehical,” and “fire accident.” These errors reduce precision, even though the main meaning is generally recoverable. Aim for accurate collocations and spelling, and use a broader range to discuss benefits such as reduced collisions, accessibility, and efficient traffic management. For example, “a large group of people” could be expressed more precisely as “a substantial number of workers.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a complex opening sentence with an “Although” clause, followed by a clear statement of your position. The sentence structure is understandable, but errors in agreement and articles are evident in “human driver might be more helpful” and “human driver are more suitable.” The opening also has a faulty construction: “A numerous individuals believe” does not form a correct noun phrase. There is some variety in sentence length, but the response relies mainly on simple statements and does not demonstrate sustained control of more complex structures. Practise matching singular and plural subjects with verbs, using articles appropriately, and building contrast sentences accurately. For instance, write “Although a human driver may be more helpful in some situations, I believe…”
