Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is stated that in coming time cars, buses and trucks will drive themselves and people will be travelling in these vehicles just as passengers. In my opinion although their are some drawbacks of autonomous vehicles but benefits outweighs them.

The major disadvantage of auto vehicles is that it will increase unemployment. Many people are related to sector of transport as drivers for their economical needs. People are driving from decades and earning their livehoods, driverless vehicles will disturb their way of of earning and most of drivers are in that stage of their life where they are unable to learn new skills which can help them to earn bread and butter. In 2025, a survey in city of Manchester showed that almost 36% of people were driving different sort of vehicles as a full time employment. So, fully autonomous vehicles can effect public at large scale.

Although, there are some impacting disadvantages of auto vehicles but their vast positive impacts can not be denied. The most prominent advantages are that transport can be made really cheap and also many issues which are related to human drivers can be vanished, which will result in timely and cheap transport of goods and people from one place to other. Machines can work tirelessly and for long hours without need to take a break which makes transportation more organised and effective. In USA a company fully transformed its transport line to autonomous trucks and recorded a best delivery time for its customers.

In conclusion, although there are some disadvantages of self driving vehicles, but benefits like better transport and more effective delivery, which will result in prosperity of whole humankind outweigh the disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you believe the benefits of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages. You address both sides, identifying possible job losses and then lower transport costs, fewer human-driver problems, and more efficient deliveries. These are relevant points, and the Manchester and US examples help make the discussion concrete. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the claim that drivers may be unable to learn new skills needs more support, and the company example does not explain how autonomous trucks produced the reported delivery improvement. To strengthen the response, develop the reasoning behind each main point and make the examples more specific and clearly connected to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on disadvantages, a paragraph on advantages, and a conclusion. The contrast between the two sides is easy to follow, and phrases such as “The most prominent advantages” signal the focus of the second body paragraph. Some linking is less controlled, however. The opening of that paragraph repeats the concession structure (“Although… but”), and the conclusion also uses “although… but,” making the connections feel mechanical. The long sentence about drivers’ livelihoods combines several related points without clear separation. Use a wider range of transitions and clearer sentence boundaries, and ensure that each paragraph develops its central idea in a deliberate sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “autonomous vehicles,” “unemployment,” “transportation,” and “delivery time.” These terms help communicate the main argument, and some less common expressions are attempted. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “auto vehicles,” “earning their livehoods,” “effect public,” and “recorded a best delivery time.” Spelling errors, including “livehoods,” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your ideas, but they limit the naturalness and flexibility of the vocabulary. Build accuracy by learning common collocations for employment, transport costs, and delivery performance, and check spelling during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction and longer sentences explaining the effects on drivers. The main meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “their are” should be “there are,” “benefits outweighs” should be “benefits outweigh,” and “it will increase unemployment” has an unclear reference to plural vehicles. The sentence beginning “Many people are related to sector” also has problems with articles and sentence construction, while “from decades” uses an incorrect preposition. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, pronoun reference, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex ideas easier to follow.
