Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some argue that lots of vehicles in the future will be driven without a driver and all members in the vehicle will be passengers. I firmly believe that benefits will outweigh the drawbacks because the safety will be higher than a driving a human being and will be a way of saving time.

In nowdays, robotic inventions have a significant impact to the society. Amongst them, gadgets regarding a vehicle has the priority. With the invention of artificial intellegence, also known as AI, most of the companies have succesfully introduced driverless vehicles. For instance, A company called Tesla brought a taxi service that is completely automated. All the members who travel in the car are passengers. They have shown the rates of accidents have decreased and the safety of passengers have increased significatly compared to a human driver. Therefore, it will be more safer in the future to travel in a driverless vehicle with the direction at present.

Driving a vehicle is covers almost all of the trasportation methods. It has became an essential for human race. Somehow, at present, people reliase that, driving takes a lot of time from their daily life. For example, in Sri Lanka, if someone driving a car from eastern province to western province, it takes at least 7 hours. During that time, driver cannot focus anything else other than driving and focus on the road. It is a stressful job. However, if the vehicle is automated, driver can relax, read book, browse the internet or he can have a nap.

In conclusion, I strongly believe the advantages will outweigh the disadvantages because in the future, it will be a safer way to transport and the driving time can be allowcated for something else.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, focusing on safety and time. Both points are relevant, and the Sri Lankan journey example helps illustrate how driving can consume time. However, the discussion is unevenly developed. The safety paragraph makes broad claims that accident rates have fallen, but gives no specific explanation or evidence, while the time-saving paragraph mainly describes what a passenger could do during a journey. The task asks you to weigh advantages against disadvantages, yet you do not identify or assess any drawback. Develop both advantages with clearer support and acknowledge a relevant concern, such as technical failures or reduced employment for drivers, before explaining why the benefits remain greater.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. This logical paragraphing makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Therefore,” and “However” to signal examples and contrasts. To make the progression more flexible and precise, ensure that each link reflects the relationship between ideas: “However” introduces no clear opposing point in the second body paragraph. Some references are also unclear, particularly “They have shown,” where the reader must infer who “they” refers to. Connect claims and examples more explicitly, and include a paragraph or sentence that addresses a disadvantage.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “driverless vehicles,” “artificial intelligence,” “automated,” “accidents,” and “transportation,” so the reader can understand the subject and your main points. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “a significant impact” and “essential.” However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations are noticeable and sometimes make the expression awkward: “intellegence,” “succesfully,” “significatly,” and “a way of saving time.” Phrases such as “the direction at present” do not clearly express your intended meaning. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, for example “have an impact on society” and “save time.” Greater precision would help you express the argument more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional example beginning “if someone driving a car” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “Driving a vehicle is covers” combines incompatible verb forms, while “It has became” uses an incorrect past participle. In “if someone driving a car,” the conditional clause needs a finite verb, and “driver cannot focus anything else” lacks a grammatical construction after “focus.” Articles and sentence structure also need attention. Practise forming complete conditional clauses and checking verb forms, agreement, and articles; this will make your varied sentence attempts more reliable.
