Do you think the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
the development of autonomous vehicles is increasing rapidly nowadays and it clearly outweigh the advantages over disadvantages ..
Firstly The driverless cars are more safe and convenient as the number of accidents are caused by mistake of drivers like drunk driving, using mobile phones which results in loss of concentration and cause accidents For example: in our city the tracks are sloppy and long which makes drivers tired and results in accidents. computer vehicles can outcome this..
furthermore these are more convenient and easy for the disabled people to travel meanwhile the working people can easily work on their laptops while travelling..
But these vehicles have few disadvantages as well
firstly it causes job loss..for example the taxi or car drivers would probably loss their jobs and results in unemployment as driving is the only skills to whom they are familiar so it would be difficult for them to
get into another field which causes alot of family problems for them as well
technical failure can also happen in these vehicles which results in accidents and loss of lives as well ..
but these problems can be solved jusy by creating more jobs for these workers and improving security systems in it as well which makes them more safer and reliable to use..
in conclusion while there are some concerns about employment and security but still the advantages are clearly outweigh the drawbacks because the disadvantages can be solved by little improvement and it'll increase people trust and reliability upon these autonomous vehicles.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you believe the benefits of driverless vehicles outweigh the drawbacks, and you address both sides of the question. Relevant advantages include fewer accidents caused by driver distraction and greater convenience for disabled people and workers. You also identify job losses and technical failures as disadvantages, then suggest retraining or creating jobs and improving security systems. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The example about “sloppy and long” tracks is difficult to connect clearly to autonomous technology, and the proposed employment solution is asserted rather than explained. To strengthen the response, explain how driverless systems could reduce accidents and give a more specific, realistic account of how displaced drivers might find work.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph on advantages, a paragraph on disadvantages and solutions, and a conclusion that restates your view. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “furthermore,” “but,” and “in conclusion” help signal the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The advantages paragraph moves quickly from accident causes to road conditions and then to convenience, while the long discussion of job loss contains several ideas without clear sentence boundaries. Some linking is mechanical, and the opening claim is not smoothly connected to the supporting points. Use one main idea per paragraph, develop it in a clear order, and use punctuation and referencing to make relationships between ideas easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “autonomous vehicles,” “driverless cars,” “unemployment,” “technical failure,” and “security systems,” so the reader can understand the main subject and arguments. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which occasionally makes meaning unclear. For example, “computer vehicles can outcome this” does not express the intended idea clearly, and “the tracks are sloppy” is an unsuitable description of the roads. Repetition of “convenient,” “accidents,” and “results” also limits precision. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for safety, employment and technology, and check that each verb and adjective fits its context. More precise vocabulary would make your examples and reasoning easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, examples and contrast, such as the sentence beginning “for example” about drivers becoming tired. This shows an effort to connect ideas using more than basic sentence patterns. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries sometimes make the reader work to interpret the meaning. Examples include “it clearly outweigh,” “the number of accidents are caused,” and “the disadvantages are clearly outweigh.” Several ideas are joined into long run-on sentences, particularly in the discussion of job losses. Practise forming accurate subject–verb combinations and separating independent clauses with full stops or suitable conjunctions. Greater control of these patterns would make your argument clearer.
