Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the future, it is expected that all cars, buses and trucks will be driverless due to the advanced in technology. The only people travelling inside these vehicles will be only passengers. Yes, the advantages of driverless vehicles outweigh the disadvantages.

The advantages of driverless vehicles can improve in the public life because there will be on exact time not delayed that human can easily distracted by other personal reasons such as sick leave. All the process are done through computers. There will be less accidents as the vehicles should be tested and checked thoroughly by the goverment. There will be no rush and also the roads will be properly maintained required by the authorities. Some other developed countries have already started this initiatives, countries such as Japan, China and Russia, etc. These countries are more advanced in the field of advanced technology.

Yes, there will be some disadvantages because the people who are in the driver jobs will be jobless. There will be economic crises for the poor people whose main income is from the driving vehicles. The underdeveloped countries such as India, Vietnam, Laos, etc where some of the drivers family entirely depends on them for their livelyhood. There were many poor families in the developing countries. Blue collars jobs will be affected by these driverless vehicles as compared to other advanced countries. People and also younsters need to have awareness about this idea and therefore they need to learn other skills and work on other industries before replacing by this vehicles.

In conclusion, people who are in this industries will suffer and create economic problems. So they need to step up and change their level by learning other appropriate jobs suitable to them carefully, even though driverless vehicles have many advantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view in the opening—“the advantages … outweigh the disadvantages”—and address both sides of the question. The discussion of disadvantages is more specific, explaining that drivers may lose their jobs and that families relying on driving income could face hardship. However, the advantages are less fully explained: claims about punctuality, fewer accidents and road maintenance are listed, but the response does not show clearly how these benefits compare with the employment costs. Some points, such as authorities maintaining roads and the examples of Japan, China and Russia, are asserted without relevant supporting detail. Develop a smaller number of ideas with explanations or examples, and make the comparison behind your judgement explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify the main sections. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, as several points are placed together without showing how they connect. For example, the advantages paragraph moves from punctuality to computer processes, accidents, road maintenance and country examples. Linking phrases such as “Yes” at the start of both body paragraphs are repetitive and do not clarify the relationship between ideas. The conclusion also repeats the employment concern rather than bringing the comparison together. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, then use clear references and transitions to explain supporting points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “driverless vehicles,” “advanced technology,” “economic crises” and “blue-collar jobs,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “on exact time,” “public life,” “livelyhood” and “replacing by this vehicles.” Spelling errors, including “goverment” and “younsters,” also reduce accuracy. Some expressions are repeated, particularly “advanced” and “vehicles.” Aim for more precise topic language and check spelling and natural word combinations. For instance, explain whether you mean reliable arrival times, public services, or workers being replaced by automated vehicles.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the poor people whose main income is from the driving vehicles.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure and agreement sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “The advantages … can improve … because there will be on exact time not delayed,” “All the process are done,” and “before replacing by this vehicles.” The sentence beginning “The underdeveloped countries such as India…” is also incomplete, while “There will be no rush and also the roads will be properly maintained required by the authorities” has an unclear grammatical relationship between its clauses. Practise complete sentences, subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms, and use complex clauses only when their structure is clear.
