Student answer (Band 6.5)

There are various advantages and disadvantages of the coming future of driverless transports. While many people are excited to see independent vehicles, some people disagree because of it's disadvantages. While driverless vehicles will only have passengers, becoming a part of technology easing human life noticeably, it's also to be accounted for how much people can trust it.

On one hand, advancing towards driverless vehicles provides significant advantages. Driverless vehicles provide faster responses than humans, making certain situations safer. While a person might react later in need for sudden braking, a car can control the car faster in emergencies. Driverless vehicles terminate the need to hire drivers, hence making it cheaper in some aspects. The occasional maintenance of the car can be cheaper than the monthly fee of a driver.

On the other hand, driverless vehicles can be dangerous. Errors in the vehicle can cause accidents, endangering lives. Driverless cars are run by software systems, which are vulnerable to cyber attacks, making it possible to endanger someone's life by hacking their vehicle. People may find it harder to trust driverless vehicle, giving them an unrelaxing feeling of panic during any journey. Driverless vehicles also reduce employment opportunities, "taking jobs" of drivers, resulting in lesser jobs for more people.

To conclude, even though driverless cars have dangers of its own, its advantages can far overcome the disadvantages. It causes comfort and ease, helping even disabled individuals to easily transport. While it causes dangers, advancing this system can reduce the dangers noticeably, and also open other job opportunities in system maintainence.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you conclude that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and you address both sides with relevant points, including quicker reactions, reduced driver costs, cyberattacks, public trust and employment. This meets the task well. Some ideas, however, are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, the claim that automated vehicles respond faster would be stronger with a specific situation or qualification, and the point about disabled passengers appears only in the conclusion. The final claim that new maintenance jobs will emerge also needs explanation or an example. To strengthen the response further, develop the most important reasons with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and support your overall judgement consistently throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion that restates your view. The contrast markers “On one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the discussion, and the ideas within each paragraph are generally grouped logically. Some linking is mechanical, however, and repeated openings such as “Driverless vehicles” make the progression feel list-like. In the first paragraph, “While” is used twice in close succession, and the relationship between the introductory ideas is not entirely clear. Use a wider range of natural transitions and connect examples to the claims they support. More precise referencing would also help avoid repetition and make links between sentences smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “cyber attacks,” “employment opportunities,” “maintenance” and “disabled individuals,” so the main ideas are clear. There are also attempts at less common or precise expressions, but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “driverless transports,” “terminate the need,” “unrelaxing feeling of panic” and “far overcome” do not fit naturally in context. “Coming future” is also redundant, while “maintainence” is misspelled. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for familiar, accurate collocations—for example, “driverless vehicles,” “eliminate the need for drivers,” and “outweigh the disadvantages”—rather than forcing more elaborate wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning with “While” and a participle phrase in “making certain situations safer.” Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “because of it's disadvantages” uses the wrong possessive form, and “trust driverless vehicle” needs an article or plural noun. In the conclusion, “its advantages” and “its dangers” do not agree with the plural subject “driverless cars.” The sentence “a car can control the car faster” also has unclear grammatical reference. Review possessives, articles, and subject–pronoun agreement, and check that each sentence’s subject and reference are clear. Greater accuracy across these structures would make the argument easier to read.
