Student answer (Band 5.5)

At present, the ratio has been increasing day by day to providing house hold work and baby sitting to other people by paying. I believe that it is a better way to do this kind of things. Many individuals have a lot of things to do and if they do not have time to do this, it is good to provide some work to others.

To commence with, there are several reasons to give not only house work but also babysitting work to others who requires. Firstly, some people can get some extra money by those things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 97 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While you introduce the topic and state a position, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. You mention that paying for services provides work for others, but you do not explore the second part of the prompt regarding whether people should do these things themselves. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure you address every part of the question. Because the response is less than half the required length, it cannot be awarded a higher band for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay shows a basic attempt at organization with an introduction and the start of a body paragraph. However, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess the overall progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'Firstly', but the text ends abruptly before these ideas can be fully linked or supported. Paragraphing is present, but the brevity of the response prevents a clear logical flow. To improve, focus on developing each point into a full paragraph with clear topic sentences and supporting evidence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'do this kind of things' and 'do some work' are overly simplistic and lack the precision expected at higher levels. There are also issues with word choice, such as 'the ratio has been increasing day by day to providing', which is grammatically awkward and imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more varied and specific vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'outsourcing', 'domestic responsibilities', or 'economic opportunities'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors that hinder clarity. For example, 'the ratio has been increasing day by day to providing' is syntactically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'by those things' instead of 'through these services'. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction and then incorporate complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences to demonstrate a wider range.
