Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Paying for work that you don't prefer to do or lack time to do, like cleaning or providing childcare. This essay will discuss both questions by examining the main reason and proposing possible solutions.

The primary reason is that it will provide employment. This is because there are many people who are looking for extra income with their full-time work. Otherwise, people who are illiterate or scared to work in an active environment. Moreover, always prefer to do this type of thing. Apart from that, this job will be very convenient as they are very flexible. For example, Grow Town, which is situated in Bihar, India, where 60% of women work for household chores or looking after children for their family support. Therefore, if you are capable of giving an opportunity to work, that will definitely reflect economic growth.

Another main point to consider is managing work-life balance. The main reason is that if balancing is done appropriately, then individuals get enough time, and they will consider doing it by themselves.

For instance, if a couple divide their shift, then they can take care of the child accordingly.

Consequently, that will save some money, which can be used for any leisure activities.

In conclusion, I believe that both views has its own merits, and I partly agree with both viewpoints. As employment will help someone for their wellness, but in contrast, if they manage in a proper way then it will be saving for them. Overall, this essay has demonstrated why this view is the most appropriate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the benefits of providing employment and the alternative of managing tasks personally. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation regarding 'illiterate' individuals is unclear and lacks logical connection to the argument. The example provided (Grow Town) is specific but its relevance to the broader economic argument is not fully articulated. The position is somewhat inconsistent, as the conclusion states you 'partly agree with both', which is a safe approach but lacks a strong, clear stance throughout the essay. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and more detailed, logical support for the claims made.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from that', and 'Consequently'. However, some of these are used mechanically or inappropriately, such as starting a sentence with 'Moreover, always prefer to do this type of thing', which lacks a clear subject. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'balancing' and 'doing it by themselves' is vague. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that cohesive devices are used to link complete, logical thoughts would enhance the score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. Phrases like 'do this type of thing' and 'managing work-life balance' are functional but repetitive. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'illiterate or scared to work in an active environment', which does not clearly convey the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise, academic vocabulary and collocations, such as 'socio-economic benefits' or 'domestic responsibilities', rather than relying on general, informal phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'both views has its own merits' (subject-verb agreement) and 'if they manage in a proper way then it will be saving for them' (awkward phrasing). The first sentence is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and ensuring all sentences have a clear subject and predicate will significantly improve your accuracy.
