Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, work life balance has become widely discussed topic. Some people believe that taking help from other is beneficial while other range feel that doing thing by themselves is better. This essay will discuss both views and conclude it with reasoning.

In many countries, the household work is mostly dependent on the woman of house. Getting help from others will give them some extra time to rest. For example, The Times survey depicts, 80% of women get sick in old age because of excessive work in the house. Thus, extra help will provide them extra to rest time and work on themselves. Secondly, for working women it is extremely difficult to balance work and personal life. There are never ending household work with office work which affect their relations and ability to work at their best.

On the flip side, doing all the work by yourself is a financial decision. The people who are willing to help you with your work demands money. So, before hiring someone it is important to be financially stable. For instance, my coworker never hired a cleaning person because she couldn't afford them. As a result, she ended up doing all her work by herself.

In conclusion, there are points on both sides, however I firmly believe that getting help from people is necessary. In today's world, life has become so busy that if all the work will be given to one person, they can feel overwhelmed. Thus, even if it requires money, everyone should get extra help.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether it is a good way to provide work and whether people should do these things themselves. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the benefits for women and the financial implications, the arguments could be extended with more depth. For instance, the discussion on 'providing work for others' is briefly touched upon but lacks a broader perspective on the economic or social impact. The position is clear throughout, but the supporting examples, such as the reference to 'The Times survey', are a bit vague and could be more effectively integrated to strengthen your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In recent years', 'For example', 'Secondly', and 'On the flip side' to guide the reader. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and the use of referencing could be more sophisticated. For example, the transition between the financial argument and the conclusion is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a stronger internal progression would help elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'work-life balance', 'financially stable', and 'overwhelmed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'doing thing by themselves' (should be 'things') and 'there are never ending household work' (should be 'is'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring subject-verb agreement when using specific nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'taking help from other' (should be 'others'), 'woman of house' (should be 'the house'), and 'if all the work will be given' (should be 'is given'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more careful proofreading, particularly regarding articles, pluralization, and conditional verb forms.
