Student answer (Band 7.0)

In this multi-tasking era, people don't have time to do the regular work such as household chores and taking care of the elderly parents and children. Some people hire workers and they are paying them to do things like this, however other believes that people should do these things by their self. I will discuss both these views in the following paragraphs and will give my opinion.

On the one hand, In this modern era, one income is not enough for fulfilling all the needs and requirements of the family. Therefore husband and wife both needs to earn money so they can share the finance responsibility together. Due to full-time work, people don't have enough time to do house chores such as cleaning the house, laundry, dishes, cooking and many more. For this reason they hire a worker who can do all this works for them so they can have a personal time. Moreover, most countries have one year of maternity leave, due to this reason if parents needs to start work after this periods they need to pay for the daycare so they can look after their children. In addition, some people hire registered nurse for their parents so they can take care of them while they are on work. Furthermore, paying for house work and other things is beneficial for both group. For instance, worker can earn money from doing these things and payee can spend time on other things and dreams they want to do.

On the other hand, some people believe that they should do these thing by themselves, as children needs more support and time from their parents to feel the love and to learn the culture of their family. Therefore, they should spend more time with their child rather than spending at work. Additionally, elderly parents also required emotional support from their children which register nurse can not give. due to this reason it is important for children to make sure they are giving enough time to their parents as it is also important for their mental well being as well physical well being. Moreover, instead of earning and then paying to the worker, they should do household chores by their self as they can be physically active and emotionally available to their family. For instance, home made food is far better than food for restaurant as it is healthy and reasonable.

In my opinion, a balance approach is the best solution. If both husband and wife are working they should pay for these things to be done, however they should make sure that on weekends they spend time with their family and they do all these housework together by their self so their children can learn from them.

In conclusion, It is possible to pay somebody to do things people don't want to do and it is increasing steadily, however taking care of the loved ones and teaching children to do household chores, it is important for people to spare time on these things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether this is a good way to provide work and whether people should perform these tasks themselves. The position is clear, and the arguments are well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of maternity leave and the emotional benefits of home-cooked meals. The ideas are extended logically, though the conclusion could have been more integrated with the main body arguments. Overall, the response fulfills all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the slightly repetitive use of 'due to this reason.' Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally smooth, making the argument easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express complex ideas clearly. There are attempts at less common collocations like 'financial responsibility' and 'mental well-being.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'payee' (which refers to the recipient of money, not the payer) and 'by their self' (which should be 'by themselves'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other believes,' 'children needs,' 'parents also required') and pluralization (e.g., 'all this works'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these minor errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading. The control of grammar is sufficient for a band 6, as the errors rarely cause confusion for the reader.
