Student answer (Band 6.5)

People are increasingly able to outsource responsibilities they either do not enjoy or lack the time to undertake, such as household cleaning and caring for children. Yes I believe it is a good way for providing employment for those that are unemployed.

Firstly, as much as doing household chores by yourself helps one not to make some economic expenses. However, I believe providing jobs for those that are in dire need of it helps to curtail some fraudulent activities. For instance, Kosi lost his job at a cleaning agency, 1 month after, he was caught trying to steal foodstuffs in the market. Also, it helps the people with stressful work to enjoy some relaxation time when they return from work.

Secondly, taking care of the kids helps reduce the case of kidnapping in some homes especially when the parents are at work and there is no household staff to care for minors . For example, my neighbours child of 7 years was abducted on his way to purchase food when his parent were at work.

Thirdly, some ladies detest domestic chores. I am a typical example of one, I hate house chores a lot. Moreover some women are not domesticated so if they can afford a staff, you go for it.

In conclusion, people should be able to outsource responsibilities that they either enjoy or lack the time to undertake. Overall, I believe it is a good way for providing job opportunities, curb some fraudulent activities and also be independent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, though the development is uneven. You clearly state your position on providing employment and the benefits of outsourcing. However, the second part of the prompt—whether people should do these things themselves—is only addressed briefly and somewhat subjectively in the third paragraph. The arguments regarding 'fraudulent activities' and 'kidnapping' are a bit tenuous and lack a strong logical link to the core question of whether outsourcing is a 'good' way to provide work. To improve, ensure that each paragraph directly supports your main thesis with more balanced reasoning that considers both sides of the argument more thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. For example, the transition in the first paragraph from household chores to 'fraudulent activities' feels abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'it' in the final sentence, which makes the conclusion feel a bit repetitive rather than summarizing the main points effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'outsource', 'responsibilities', and 'domesticated'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'economic expenses' is not a standard collocation; 'financial costs' would be more natural. The phrase 'not domesticated' is also used in a way that sounds slightly unnatural in this context. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to use more precise and varied language to move into the higher bands. Focus on learning collocations rather than just individual words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'as much as doing household chores by yourself helps one not to make some economic expenses' (which is a sentence fragment) and 'my neighbours child' (missing possessive apostrophe). There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'the case of kidnapping' and 'when his parent were at work'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focus on proofreading for basic punctuation and agreement errors.
