Student answer (Band 7.0)

A significant number of people today are working and has no time to perform daily home chores. Therefore, many of them prefer to get their daily work done by some household helpers. Though, it is a debatable topic whether to rely on someone for work or should be done by own.

From joint families many have moved to nuclear families today and hence, both the parents are working to meet family need. Usually, office hours require a employee to present at office for more then 8 hours, thus leaving no time for carrying out day-to-day home activities, including looking after their young childrens. Therefore, if families could afford to pay for services they prefer to keep house- keeping staff for finishing the home tasks before they get back to their home after the hectic office hours. Moreover, taking help from a baby-sitter also take away a huge responsibilities from their shoulders as parents need not to worry about their children well-beings. This way parents are not just getting a relax and stress-free day after office, but this is a also source of income for many who are in need of a job. Therefore, it is worth getting help from others by providing them a stable income. For example, in India itself where both the parents are working and they lack enough time for house hold work, they opt for services from various authorised and government registered house-keeping organisation, ensuring reliability and trust.

Conversely, many believe that rather then depending upon someone unknown, it is better to perform the home tasks on own. This is because majorly due to two main factors. Firstly, dedication with which a member of a family completes all house hold work, house-keeping staff will lack that dedication. Hence, they will not perform the work with the sincerity. Secondly, it is very difficult to trust someone in todays time. Even when someone is sent for baby-sitting through a reliable sources, one can never read the mind of that person. There are chances that the person may harm a child or may steal something from home without our knowledge. Thus, rather then a help this can turn into a tragedy in future. As many a time, we get to listen to news where nannies ill treats children, specially the one who are too young to express themselves. Therefore, no matter how much busy a person is, but it is far better to get home chores done by themselves, rather than regretting later.

At the end, it is wrong to say that in today hectic schedule everyone wants to have relax time at home after office, thus any kind of help makes lot of difference, but it is far better if families could manage and get help from relatives and close friends rather then depending upon someone who is totally unknown.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the benefits of hiring help as a form of job creation and the counter-argument regarding personal responsibility and trust. The position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are generally well-developed, particularly the discussion on the risks associated with hiring strangers. However, the development could be slightly more nuanced in the first body paragraph; while the economic benefit is mentioned, it is not explored in depth. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers both questions posed in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Moreover', 'Conversely', and 'Firstly' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the debate. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'household chores', 'baby-sitter', and 'authorised and government registered'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'get a relax' instead of 'get some relaxation' and 'ill treats' instead of 'mistreats'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the meaning is always clear, and the student demonstrates an attempt to use a varied vocabulary to express complex ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people... is working', 'a employee'), pluralization errors ('young childrens'), and prepositional mistakes ('present at office'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student needs to improve control over basic grammatical rules and ensure more consistent accuracy in complex sentence construction.
