Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 7.0)

Although many people think that paying someone to do household chores like cleaning, babysitting children or laundry stuff can save a lot of time and make their life easier. But, I strongly believe that an individual should be responsible for their own or personal work and shouldn't be pushed on to someone else by paying them.

Firstly, doing basic household chores isn't a job, it is a responsibility of an individual. It shouldn't be seen as a burden which takes a lot of time, it should be counted as a daily routine. This makes a person responsible, reliable and efficient in time management. It also makes a person independent and strong, which can be very helpful everyday. For instance, a friend of mine never had to do any chores or cleaning while he was living with his parents, which he later regretted. When he moved abroad for higher studies, he was living alone and had to do everything on his own and he couldn't complete anything on time due to poor time management.

Secondly, doing household chores or looking after your children by yourself also increases the time and quality spent with your family. Chores can be divided within the family members which can make it finish quickly. A family completing their chores or looking after their children by talking to each other about their day, laughing and happy moments can make it a wholesome environment.

Although, some people say that arriving home after their long working hours and tiring jobs can make it difficult to complete household work. Hence, paying other to do their chores is a reasonable choice. But, I condemn those choices as, it can make a person lazy and inefficient.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed both parts of the prompt: whether this is a good way to provide work and whether people should perform these tasks themselves. Your position is clear throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, particularly the argument regarding personal responsibility and family bonding. However, the development of the first question—whether this is a good way of providing work—is somewhat limited. You focus heavily on the personal benefits of doing chores rather than exploring the economic or social implications of outsourcing labor. To reach a higher band, ensure both sides of the prompt receive balanced, detailed exploration. Overall, the response is well-focused and directly answers the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'However' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. For instance, the jump between the personal anecdote and the conclusion could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that each paragraph flows naturally into the next by using more sophisticated cohesive ties rather than relying solely on sequence markers.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'efficient', 'time management', and 'wholesome environment' effectively. However, there are some instances of informal or imprecise word choices, such as 'laundry stuff' and 'paying other to do their chores'. These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication but prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding informal fillers. Expanding your range to include more topic-specific vocabulary related to labor, economics, or personal development would also be beneficial for achieving a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this level. There are several grammatical errors, such as sentence fragments (e.g., 'But, I strongly believe...') and issues with subject-verb agreement or pluralization (e.g., 'paying other to do their chores'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of your message. To improve, pay closer attention to punctuation—specifically avoiding starting sentences with 'But' or 'Although' in a way that creates a fragment—and ensure consistent verb forms. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help elevate your score.
