It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.

Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is a good deed to provide money to those who are in need of it by paying them. But that is not the case every time. I believe that giving money to those who help you is not correct.

By paying them with cash every time is not the correct way. For instance, a grandmother looks after her grandchildren is a task which does not require any kind of payment from the parents or the society. This is something every grandma does out of love for her grandkids. So, this shows that how love can win people over money. This situation arises nowadays because parents do not have time to look after their kids since they are busy with their career. Also, the senior citizens are also free in their retirement which gives them time to take care of their family. Here, the intentions are pure towards the family.

On the other hand, sometimes providing money to the needy people is good for them. It is their job to do so. For example, the house helpers are people who keeps our home clean because they need money for their own survival. We do feel ashamed to make them clean our houses but that is what they do. This again happens as nobody has time to keep things neat and tidy. Everyone is on a tight schedule in today's world. In this situation, a person's intention to help someone by giving them money makes sense as in return they get what they want which can be cleaning the house.

In the conclusion, it depends on the situation that how one individual works, by proving them with money or by intentions of love.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the economic impact of paying for services and the personal aspect of performing tasks oneself. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding house helpers is a bit contradictory, as you mention feeling 'ashamed' to employ them, which is a subjective emotional point rather than a balanced analysis of the economic benefits. The position is clear, but the reasoning lacks depth and could be better supported with more nuanced examples. To improve, ensure that your arguments are fully explored rather than just stated, and maintain a more objective tone throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'On the other hand', and 'In the conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel forced. For example, the jump from the grandmother example to the general statement about parents' careers is a bit abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where the phrasing 'how one individual works' is vague and does not effectively summarize the preceding arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'good deed', 'correct way', and 'pure intentions'. There are also some minor collocation issues, such as 'providing them with money' (usually 'paying them') and 'the house helpers are people who keeps our home clean' (subject-verb agreement error). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'outsourcing', 'socio-economic', 'domestic responsibilities', or 'interpersonal relationships'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('house helpers... who keeps'), article usage, and awkward phrasing ('By paying them with cash every time is not the correct way'). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb forms and sentence construction. Incorporating more varied complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
