Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now days many people pay others to do household chores, look after children. Some people think this creates. job opportunities, while others believe people should do these task themselves. I believe Both ideas have benefits, but it depends on persons situation.

On the one hand, paying someone to do these jobs is a good way to provide work for others. Many people earn money by cleaning houses, taking care of children or helping older people. These types of jobs are helpful for people who need flexible working hours or have limited education. In addition busy people can save their time and focus on important works. For example, A couple with full-time jobs may hire a babysitter so they can continue working without worrying about their children.

On the other hand, I think people should do some of these tasks themselves whenever possible. Doing household chores helps people become more responsible. Parents should spend time with their children instead of depending on others. This help teaches children good value and good relationship. For example, many family usually cleans the house together to take a chance to spend time together.

In conclusion, paying others to do household work can create employment and help busy people to manage their time.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the benefits of job creation and the personal value of performing tasks oneself. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. While the ideas are relevant, they are presented in a somewhat superficial manner. For instance, the argument regarding 'good value' for children is mentioned but not fully explored or supported with sufficient detail. Because the response is 43 words short, it fails to meet the length requirement, which negatively impacts the overall development and task achievement score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'In addition', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the transition between ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally weak. For example, the sentence 'This help teaches children good value and good relationship' lacks a clear antecedent and suffers from awkward phrasing. While the overall structure is logical, the limited length prevents a more sophisticated flow of arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks range and precision. The student relies on basic, repetitive phrasing such as 'do these jobs', 'do these tasks', and 'do household chores'. There are some minor errors in word choice, such as 'take a chance to spend time together', which is not the standard collocation for this context. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more varied and precise vocabulary related to employment, domestic life, and personal development, while avoiding repetitive structures.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'Now days' (should be 'Nowadays'), 'depends on persons situation' (missing article/possessive), and 'many family usually cleans' (subject-verb agreement error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, such as the fragment 'Some people think this creates. job opportunities'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. A greater focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage is necessary.
