Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 209 words long. Furthermore, the essay is incomplete, ending abruptly mid-sentence in the conclusion. While the student addresses both parts of the prompt—discussing the benefits of hiring help and the importance of personal responsibility—the ideas are underdeveloped due to the lack of length and the unfinished nature of the text. To reach a higher band, the student must ensure the essay is fully developed and meets the length requirement, providing more detailed examples and a complete, well-structured conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'However' to signal transitions between paragraphs. However, the logical progression is severely hampered by the incomplete conclusion. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the argument. The referencing is generally clear, but the lack of a finished thought process makes the essay feel disjointed. To improve, the student should focus on completing their arguments and ensuring that each paragraph leads naturally into the next with a clear, finished summary.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'in account to fulfill their family need' and 'it is a believe'. The student relies on fairly common, repetitive language. To achieve a higher score, the student should aim to use more sophisticated collocations and precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'financial independence', 'domestic responsibilities', or 'nurturing environment', while ensuring grammatical accuracy in word choice.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'people do not have get enough time', 'this attitude not only allow them', and 'infants to not to do their do their daily'. There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but the control over these is inconsistent. Subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are common areas of error. To improve, the student needs to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading to eliminate repetitive errors and ensure subject-verb agreement.
