It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.

Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

People should do things by their own or they should pay for it like if don’t want to do something like household stuff or taking care of their kids. I think I will view both sides and give my opinion.

To began this, it would be great idea if we could pay to others for doing our house chores and looking for our kids. It would also arise job opportunities for people’s. For example, my mom was working as a teacher and it was difficult for my mother to balance both work and house chores. So, she hired maid and she got paid for cleaning and laundry.

On the other hand, I would be better for us to do our things by ourselves, like doing house work such as, cleaning, laundry, and cooking. It would make us feel better and build connections with our families. Furthermore, taking care of our children by ourselves is best option to build relationships with them and it helps us to understand thier needs. For instance, I love my family, I am working women but my whole family help each other in household chores and we eat together and spend quality time with each other. We are living our best life.

To conclude this, I would say it’s depends upon personal choice how they would like to manage their workload with house chores and with kids. Each side has its own set of responsibilities and needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the benefits of outsourcing chores and the value of doing them personally. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of ideas. While the position is clear, the arguments are somewhat underdeveloped and lack depth. For instance, the discussion on job creation is brief, and the personal example provided is quite simple. To reach a higher band, you need to expand your points with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the word count requirement to allow for full development of your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To began this', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore', though some are used incorrectly or mechanically. For example, 'To began this' is grammatically incorrect. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the two sides of the argument could be smoother. The use of referencing is occasionally repetitive, and paragraphing is present but could be more effectively managed to enhance the flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'things', 'stuff', and 'best option'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'looking for our kids' (should be 'looking after') and 'working women' (should be 'working woman'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or more sophisticated lexical items. To improve, focus on using more precise terminology related to employment and domestic life.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. Examples include 'People should do things by their own' (should be 'on their own'), 'it would arise job opportunities' (should be 'create'), and 'it’s depends upon'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions to improve your accuracy.
