Student answer (Band 4.0)

It is often discussed by many people that schools should give more preference digital devices such as tablets and laptops instead of traditional textbooks. I think it is a positive development, as students would be more interested in learning their lessons with technology, which would encourage them to gain useful knowledge faster than physical books.

One of the major reason is being more handy to the technology, many children love to watch cartoons and play games on their tablet which keeps them into a loop to focus more. Introducing them to small learning videos can boost their interest to learn something new. For instance, promoting children to play games with calculation can nurture their skills in Mathematics. Considerable, watching videos of lab experiments would help them to improve their science.

Another reason for shifting to the digital devices could save our environment by reducing paperwork as well as budget friendly to all.

To exemplify, being expensive and limited in stock books are not accessible to all children, where as laptops or tablets are more common in every household which can provide multiple websites or learning portal at ease. Considerable, many students feel difficult to carry their backpacks to schools because of being heavy whereas digital devices are portable and easy to carry anywhere.

Taking everything into consideration, replacing traditional physical books with electronic devices are more engaging to the students and saving the ecosystem by protecting the demolition of forest trees for papers. It has more positive aspects and is positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 1.0

The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks about the ethics and implications of paying others to perform household chores or childcare. However, your essay discusses the use of digital devices in schools instead of textbooks. Because you did not address the task prompt at all, this response cannot be scored for task achievement in a meaningful way. In an actual IELTS examination, this would result in a score of 0 or a very low band for task response as the content is irrelevant to the question asked. You must carefully read the prompt to ensure your ideas directly answer the specific questions posed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs with clear topic sentences, such as 'One of the major reason is...' and 'Another reason for shifting...'. You use some cohesive devices like 'For instance', 'To exemplify', and 'Taking everything into consideration' to link your ideas. However, the logical progression is undermined by the fact that the content does not relate to the prompt. While the structure itself is functional and follows a standard essay format, the lack of relevance to the topic makes the overall coherence ineffective in the context of the exam requirements.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a reasonable range of vocabulary, such as 'nurture', 'portable', 'demolition', and 'ecosystem'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'being more handy to the technology' (instead of 'being more comfortable with technology') and 'Considerable' used incorrectly as a transition word. Additionally, 'budget friendly' is used as an adjective phrase but lacks the necessary hyphenation. While you have enough vocabulary to express your ideas, the misuse of certain terms and the lack of precision in word choice limit your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, 'One of the major reason is being more handy' contains a subject-verb agreement error ('reason' should be 'reasons') and an awkward gerund phrase. You also have issues with sentence fragments and run-on structures, such as 'Considerable, watching videos of lab experiments would help them to improve their science.' There are also errors with articles and prepositions throughout the text. While your meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band.
