IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.

Is this a good way of providing work for others?

Should people do these things themselves?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Few people belive that paying for a service which an individual can not to by himself or don't have free time to do.in my opinion we should offer money to someone for any kind of services, the reasons are explained in upcoming paragraph with appropriate points and suitable examples.

To begin with, people should not take chance to do things by themselves unless they have any kind of exprience in that filed. Secondly it is a better decision to pay someone who is a proffeshonal and know his work, this will not only give employment to new people but also support the local community bisnecess . for example few days back when the summer season stared i need to swap my winter tires to summers one's, unfortunetally i did not had time, so hired a local person who was proffesional at his work he fineshed his work in half hour.

However, some individuals thinks that peoples should do there own job themselves .which is might be true because there might be suituation where you do not have anyone to help and if you do tasks by yourself than you need to be depend on someone. For instance, if you are stuck with a flat tires of car i a remote place where you can't find any help then a person can do it by himself if have habbie ts to do things by themself.

Moreover, according to my viewpoint i prefer to hire someone rather than doing things by themselves because it may have more negative effects.

To sum up, i once again support the idea of doing things by paying someone than doing job by themselves both have there advantages and disadvantages.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the benefits of outsourcing tasks and the counter-argument for self-reliance. However, the development of ideas is limited. The arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth, particularly in the second paragraph where the example of a flat tire is a bit simplistic. The position is clear, but the overall structure feels rushed, and the conclusion does not effectively synthesize the arguments, instead stating that both sides have advantages without explaining why the writer prefers one over the other. To improve, ensure each point is fully extended with more detailed reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical. While cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Secondly', and 'However' are used, they are sometimes applied incorrectly or in a way that disrupts the natural progression of the argument. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logic. More varied and precise linking words would help improve the overall flow and coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. There are frequent spelling errors such as 'belive', 'proffeshonal', 'bisnecess', and 'fineshed', which occasionally impede readability. The student relies on basic vocabulary and struggles with collocations, such as 'take chance to do things' or 'habbie ts'. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of precision and the high frequency of spelling mistakes prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Expanding the range of vocabulary and focusing on accurate spelling and word formation is essential.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('some individuals thinks'), incorrect verb forms ('did not had time'), and awkward phrasing ('if you do tasks by yourself than you need to be depend on someone'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods and incorrect capitalization. While the errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty for the reader and indicate a lack of control over complex structures.
