Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this modern world, there is no denying the fact that the phenomenon of paying somebody else to complete tasks which they couldn’t do it or don’t have enough time to do it. Majority of audience is in the favour of this statement due to its number of merits. I will discuss my views on this recent trend and discuss both sides of the coin.

Firstly, a lot of people have moved from their hometown in search of better jobs and future. While doing so, they don’t hold enough time to complete activities such as cooking, house cleaning and taking care of children. To solve this problem, people living in metro cities in developed countries are employing people who are experts in particular niches. There are catering service for food, which is handy for working single professionals and majority of them are male. Secondly, working couple takes shadow of early age childcare educators and day care facilities. These facilities are growing exponentially in developed countries and charges parents based on monthly subscription, but also provide food and education to children. They meet and make new friends and learn a lot from plethora of ethnicities. In addition, these activities provide employment opportunities for folks who’re struggling to earn a bread.

Furthermore, there are people who are debating over potential hazards such as safety and privacy. Inviting cleaners at your place while you’re away for work, is threat to privacy. Also, people should allocate weekends and holidays for deep cleaning, which keeps them physically more fit and not dependable on others. Inviting friends and family members, to complete household chores promotes bonding and keeps everyone attached as you spend more time with them.

In conclusion, neither its pros can be neglected nor its cons. It’s a mixed bag of positives and negatives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing work for others and the question of whether people should perform these tasks themselves. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the benefits of outsourcing (employment opportunities, convenience) are covered, the discussion on whether people should do these things themselves is less detailed and relies on general assertions rather than deep exploration. The introduction is slightly confusing, as it mentions discussing 'both sides of the coin' but does not clearly state a personal position, which is a requirement for a higher band score. The conclusion is also quite brief and lacks a summary of the main arguments presented.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader through the arguments. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the opening sentence where the grammatical structure is fragmented. The progression of ideas is generally logical, but the connection between the paragraphs could be smoother to improve the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at using more sophisticated phrases like 'plethora of ethnicities' and 'growing exponentially'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and imprecise word choices, such as 'struggling to earn a bread' (should be 'earn a living' or 'make ends meet') and 'takes shadow of' (which is non-standard). These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the score as they demonstrate a lack of precision in collocation and idiomatic usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'which they couldn’t do it' (redundant pronoun) and 'there are catering service' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, the first sentence is grammatically incomplete, lacking a main verb for the subject 'phenomenon'. While the meaning remains clear, these frequent errors in basic grammar and punctuation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to subject-verb agreement and sentence construction is needed.
