Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the working professionals spend most of their time in the office and do not have enough time to look after their house or children. To resolve this, people hire household chores or a nanny. This resolves their problem of taking care of the house or children. I believe along with its advantages such as child care, it makes a weaker relationship bond between parents and children.

To begin with, some people believe that hiring a domestic help or a nanny is a better solution to take care of a house or children. Parents who work, tend to have less time to spend with their kids. They worry about their children because they can not take them to their office. To resolve this, people hire a nanny, who takes care of a kid in his parent's absence. Moreover, it is a good way of providing work for others. People with no educational background or an experience can work as a nanny.

However, along with its advantages, it has few disadvantages. Firstly, it becomes an issue of security. Sometimes people hire an unknown and trust them blindly. Secondly, when a nanny spends most of the time with a kid, it affects his bond with parents. Moreover, it has been seen that a child always look for a nanny even when his parents are around.

In conclusion, despite the fact that a domestic help or a nanny helps and individual to take care of his house or children in his absence, it is a major issue of security. Moreover, leaving a child with nanny, weakens the relationship bond between parents and children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the economic benefit of providing work and the personal question of whether people should perform these tasks themselves. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention that hiring help provides jobs for those with no educational background, this point is not fully explored. Similarly, the discussion on whether people should do these things themselves is brief. To achieve a higher band, you should expand on your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, you could discuss the societal impact of outsourcing domestic labor or the psychological benefits of parents performing childcare themselves to provide a more balanced and comprehensive response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader through your arguments. While the progression is clear, the use of these devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between sentences is smoother. For example, instead of starting multiple sentences with 'Moreover', you could use more sophisticated transitions like 'Furthermore' or 'In addition to this'. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the central ideas are easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'domestic help', 'nanny', and 'security'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'hire household chores' (you hire a person, not a chore) and 'an experience' (which should be 'experience' as an uncountable noun). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary. Avoid repeating the same phrases and try to incorporate more academic or formal synonyms to enhance the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. For example, 'the working professionals' (should be 'working professionals'), 'a child always look' (should be 'looks'), and 'helps and individual' (should be 'helps an individual'). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures, such as using conditional clauses or relative clauses more effectively, would also help improve your score.
