IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.
Is this a good way of providing work for others?
Should people do these things themselves?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Outsourcing thing you cannot do because you do not want to do them or due to time constraint for instance, household chores and babysitting can help provide employment opportunities but people should be able to strike a balance in knowing when to get help from outside and when to do things themselves.
In societies where the margin between the rich and poor is wide with very few employment opportunities especially for the uneducated, outsourcing home duties like doing the laundry, walking pets, mowing the lawn and watching children is very important because these roles require little to no education. Consequently, it keeps people engaged and stops them from getting influenced by bad groups there by reducing crime rate. Although, i think it is important to do a proper background check on these individuals before letting them into your space.
The average educated adult in todays society is extremely busy with work. They can leave home as early as 5am and not come back till 10pm. As a result of this, parents do not get to bond with their children and their houses are left unattended to. Personally, i am of the view that people should employ others to do their chores for them to save time when and where necessary but parents should find a way to balance it out so the can spend time with their children and teach them the importance of doing chores thereby preventing laziness when they become adults.
Ultimately, paying people to do chores is an excellent way to be an employer of labour but knowing what tasks to do by yourself is paramount.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of outsourcing as a form of employment and the necessity of personal responsibility. The position is clear throughout. The ideas are relevant, particularly the link between low-skilled employment and crime reduction. However, the development is somewhat brief. While the arguments are logical, they could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on 'bonding with children' is a good point, but it could be expanded to explain the long-term societal implications of outsourcing parenting duties versus household chores.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main themes. Cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'although,' and 'as a result of this' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical, and some transitions could be more sophisticated. The referencing is generally clear, though the opening sentence is a bit long and could be punctuated more effectively to improve readability and logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. You use some good collocations like 'employment opportunities,' 'background check,' and 'reduce crime rate.' There are some minor errors, such as 'employer of labour' (which is a bit informal or regional) and 'there by' (should be 'thereby'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise, less common vocabulary to demonstrate a wider range. The current range is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Outsourcing thing you cannot do' (should be 'things'), 'todays society' (missing apostrophe), and 'so the can spend' (should be 'they'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and the capitalization of 'i'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and proofreading for minor slips would significantly improve your accuracy.
