Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 7.5)
It is increasingly common for people to pay others to perform tasks such as household chores or childcare. While some argue that everyone should take responsibility for these duties themselves, I believe that paying others can be a positive way of creating employment, provided that such work is fairly paid and respected.
Firstly, hiring people to do domestic tasks creates valuable employment opportunities. Many individuals, particularly those with limited formal qualifications, can earn a living by working as cleaners, gardeners, babysitters or carers. This can also provide flexible employment for people who need to balance work with family responsibilities. For example, a university student may work as a babysitter in the evenings, allowing them to earn money while continuing their studies. Therefore, paying for domestic services can benefit both employers and workers.
Another advantage is that outsourcing household responsibilities allows people to use their time more effectively. Modern workers often have demanding jobs and limited free time. Paying someone to clean the house or look after children can give them more time to rest, work or spend with their families. For instance, a doctor who works long hours may reasonably employ a cleaner rather than spending their limited free time doing household chores. In this sense, domestic services can improve people's quality of life.
However, I do not believe that people should completely avoid doing these tasks themselves. Household responsibilities can teach children and adults important skills, such as cooking, cleaning and caring for others. Parents, for example, should still teach their children to keep their rooms tidy and help with basic household duties, even if the family can afford domestic help. In addition, relying entirely on paid workers may reduce people's independence.
In conclusion, paying others to perform household tasks is a useful way of creating employment and can allow people to manage their time more efficiently. Nevertheless, individuals should still take responsibility for some domestic duties themselves, particularl

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt clearly. You have provided a balanced argument, discussing both the benefits of creating employment and the importance of personal responsibility. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the example of the doctor and the university student, which adds depth to your arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that your conclusion is fully completed, as the current text cuts off mid-sentence. Despite this minor omission, the task is addressed comprehensively and the arguments are relevant and well-supported.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Another advantage', 'However', and 'In conclusion' effectively to guide the reader. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the transition between the benefits of outsourcing and the necessity of personal responsibility is smooth. The referencing is clear throughout. The only issue is the incomplete final sentence, which slightly disrupts the overall coherence of the conclusion, but the structure remains strong and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the task. Phrases like 'limited formal qualifications', 'balance work with family responsibilities', and 'outsourcing household responsibilities' are used accurately. You show an awareness of collocation and style, which allows for precise communication. While the vocabulary is sufficient and effective, incorporating a few more sophisticated or less common lexical items could elevate the score further. Overall, your word choice is natural and contributes to a clear, professional tone throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a variety of complex sentence structures effectively, such as conditional clauses ('provided that such work is...') and relative clauses ('...who need to balance work...'). The majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control of punctuation is generally good. There are no significant grammatical errors that impede communication. The range of structures is sufficient to convey complex ideas clearly. To improve, ensure that you proofread your work to avoid incomplete sentences, as seen in the final line, which affects the overall grammatical completeness of the response.
