Student answer (Band 5.5)

it is often arqued that paying someone to do the chores that you do not want to do because they don't have time or should people do these things for themselves.

While some people believe that paying someone to do the chores will give them enough time for themselves and it is also a great way to provide work for others. I believe that doing simple chores like household chores or outside jobs such as lawn mowing or carpentry. I believe this is better if doing it personally because it will help you learn new skills and it will also a therapy for somebody.

One of the main reasons why I believe that doing the chores by ourself is a good idea because most of the people trying to work hard just to pay off the life that they want but they are struggling to handle it by themselves so they need someone to do it. However, in my opinion if I am doing it personally it will increase my knowledge and I know that I will not stress out about how to pay the person and also the pay that is supposed to allocate to that person can be use to treat my self as a reward. As a result I will enjoying learning new things and also save a couple of bucks for this.

In conclusion although it is also a good thing to provide work for others or provide a opportunity for some people to earn. I believe that doing it by ourselves are better because you will learn new things and also you use the allocated money to treat yourself and save the money rather than paying someone to do it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is somewhat limited. While you clearly state your preference for doing chores yourself, the arguments provided—such as 'therapy' and 'saving a couple of bucks'—are somewhat simplistic and lack depth. The introduction is problematic as it fails to clearly paraphrase the prompt or present a coherent thesis statement, instead appearing as a fragmented sentence. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-supported argument. For instance, you could expand on the societal benefits of providing work versus the personal growth gained from self-reliance. The conclusion is repetitive, merely restating the points made in the body paragraphs without adding further insight.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'However, in my opinion if I am doing it personally' is clunky and does not effectively contrast with the previous sentence. Additionally, some sentences are run-on or lack clear logical links, such as the opening sentence which is grammatically incomplete and confusing. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to create a smoother flow between ideas and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'do the chores', 'doing it personally', and 'save a couple of bucks'. While these communicate your meaning, they are repetitive and informal. There are also instances of awkward word choice, such as 'allocate to that person' and 'the pay that is supposed to allocate'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to employment, personal development, and economic impact. Avoid informal expressions like 'a couple of bucks' in favor of more formal alternatives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'doing it by ourselves are better'), sentence fragments (the entire first paragraph), and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'I will enjoying learning'). While you attempt some complex structures, they are often marred by errors in punctuation and syntax. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction before attempting more complex ones. Ensure that your subjects and verbs agree and that you are using consistent verb tenses. Proofreading for basic errors like missing articles and incorrect prepositions will significantly improve your score.
