Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, people can pay others to carry out tasks they either dislike or do not have enouhg time to complete, such as household chores and chhildcare, Although some people believe that individulasshould perform these responsibilities themselves, I believe that paying others to do such work can be beneficalfor both the employer and the wider community.

To commence with, hiring people to perform unwanted tasks is that it creates employment opportunities. To expound, Many individuals earn their living by providing services such as cleaning, babysitting, gardening and cooking. For example, a busy family may hire a cleaner to visit their home twice a week, allowing the cleaner to earn a regular income while the family can devote more time to their jobs and children. Another important benefit is that outsourcing routine responsibilities allows people to use their time more efficiently. Modern life can be extremely demanding, particulary for parents who work full-time. Instead of spending several hours cleaning the house or preparing meals, they can concentrate on their careers, spend quality time with their children. For instance, a working couple may employ a babysitter during their working hours, enabling them to maintain a healthy balance their professional and personal lives.

On flip side, I do not believe that people should completely avoid doing these tasks themselves. Certain responsibilities , especially childcare, require emotional involvement and cannot always be delegated.

In conclusion, paying others to perform unwanted or time consuming tasks is generally a positive development because it provides employment and gives people more time to focus on important tasks. Nevertheless, individuals should continue to handle tasks that require personal involvement, particularly caring for their children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the economic benefits of outsourcing and the personal necessity of performing certain tasks. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph provides a clear example of employment opportunities, the second paragraph regarding personal responsibility is quite brief and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on why certain tasks—beyond just childcare—might be better performed by the individual, perhaps discussing the psychological benefits or the importance of personal autonomy in a home environment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'To expound', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, the transition between the second body paragraph and the counter-argument is slightly abrupt. The use of 'On flip side' is missing an article ('the'), and some sentences feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, though the final paragraph is quite short and could be better integrated into the overall structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'employment opportunities', 'devote more time', and 'emotional involvement' are used effectively. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'enouhg', 'chhildcare', 'individulasshould', and 'beneficalfor'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, you need to improve your proofreading to ensure that these minor slips do not detract from the professional quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like structure in the introduction and the use of participial phrases like 'enabling them to maintain...'. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'hiring people... is that it creates' (a subject-complement mismatch) and 'balance their professional' (missing a preposition like 'between'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues after commas. The majority of sentences are clear, and errors do not impede communication, but more consistent control over complex structures is needed for a higher score.
