Student answer (Band 7.0)

Nowadays, many people pay others to perform household tasks or look after their child because they are too busy or do not have enough time to do these thigs themselves. In my opinion, this can be a good way of creating jobs. Although, people should still take responsibilities for their families and homes whenever possible.

On the one hand, paying others to perform household duties can provide valuable employment opportunities. Many people earn their living by working as cleaners, gardeners, babysitters and domestic helpers. This can be particularly beneficial for those who do not have advanced educational qualification, as these jobs allow them to earn a regular income and support their families. Moreover, hiring someone can save time to those who have demanding jobs. For example, a working couple may employ a cleaner once or twice a week so that they can spend time with their children or concentrate on their careers.

On the other hand, there are some responsibilities that people should preferably handle themselves. Parents, for instance, should spend sufficient time with their children because emotional support and family relationship can not simply be replaced by money. Similarly, doing household chores can teach children and adults important qualities such as responsibility and independence. If people rely completely on others for every domestic tasks, they may become less self-reliant.

In my opinion, paying others to perform household duties is a positive practice, when it is done reasonably. People can outsource routine task when they are genuinely busy, but they should not use money as an excuse to avoid responsibilities for their families. For example, a parent may hire a babysitter while working, but should still make time to communicate with or take care of their children.

In conclusion, employing others to perform household duties is a useful way of creating jobs and saving time. People should still make time to take care of their families.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt clearly. You have provided a balanced view, discussing the economic benefits of outsourcing household tasks while also highlighting the importance of personal responsibility in family life. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the distinction between outsourcing routine chores and maintaining emotional bonds with children. To reach a higher band, you could further extend the discussion on the societal impact of this trend, perhaps by considering the long-term effects on family dynamics or the broader economy beyond just job creation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'Similarly' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sides of the argument. The flow is generally smooth, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'valuable employment opportunities', 'demanding jobs', and 'genuinely busy' show good control. There are a few minor errors, such as 'educational qualification' (should be plural) and 'every domestic tasks' (should be 'every domestic task'). While you use some less common vocabulary, further integration of more academic collocations would elevate the score. Overall, the vocabulary is accurate and appropriate for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most sentences are error-free, and your control of grammar is generally strong. There are a few minor slips, such as 'save time to those' (should be 'save time for those') and 'thigs' (spelling error). You also have a minor subject-verb agreement issue with 'family relationship can not simply be replaced'. Despite these, the errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. To improve, ensure you proofread for small typos and check preposition usage.
