Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people have hectic daily schedules and some of them don't want to do daily household work or taking care of their children. So they tend to hire Nanny or house helper. I don't think this is a job that you need to hire or pay someone. According to me, it is our duty to do these things by ourselves.

Firstly, It is a terrible way of providing work for others. If adults in the family are working full time for ten hours, still they have at least six hours left in a day to do household chores and sit with their children. They can be part of their children's growth in initial years. I can accept that you pay someone for some household chores but individuals should not compromise their children's future.

In addition to that, people should do these things by themselves. If a child is staying with someone from outside the family for ten to twelve hours in a day then, in some way it will hamper the development of the child. Because house helpers will be doing this job for money only and usually they come from a lower middle class background. Children adopts thoughts, actions and personalities from the surrounding people. In that case, they will eventually become underconfident or not smart enough within the society.

To conclude, If both parents are working then one of them should work part-time so that they can shape better future of their children. They can take help for household chores to some extent but it is imperative to look after their children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether hiring help is a good way to provide work and whether people should perform these tasks themselves. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The argument regarding the negative impact of house helpers on children is a significant over-generalization and lacks nuance, which weakens the persuasiveness of the essay. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the supporting arguments, particularly the claim that helpers from lower-middle-class backgrounds negatively influence a child's personality, are underdeveloped and rely on subjective assumptions rather than logical reasoning. To reach a higher band, you should provide more balanced, evidence-based arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition to that', and 'To conclude' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the phrase 'I don't think this is a job that you need to hire or pay someone', where the antecedent of 'this' is slightly ambiguous. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear overall progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinions clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'imperative' and 'compromise', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'do daily household work or taking care of their children' (parallelism error) and 'Children adopts thoughts' (subject-verb agreement error). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'I can accept that you pay someone' (should be 'I accept that paying someone'), 'Children adopts' (subject-verb agreement), and 'shape better future of their children' (missing article). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex sentences, but control over these structures is inconsistent.
