IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.
Is this a good way of providing work for others?
Should people do these things themselves?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Freedom of choice is an independent decision and to liberate oneself or others from this responsibility is totally an acceptable form of working upon one’s own will. Endowment of healthy physical and mental traits leads an individual to work independently whereas opulent individuals lacking time hire assistants to get their work done smoothly. Both perspectives hold different viewpoints which could be analyzed further but I contend to work upon my own frame of time.
Delegation of tasks in terms of money through others saves a lot of free time to carry out other specific activities which otherwise could become difficult to manage within a certain timeline. For instance, a woman who is a housewife would need a break from housekeeping or babysitting and would love to engage in writing which is possible through hiring people to help you in some way as that assistant be employed and earn for himself. Outsourcing provides you with the benefits of avoiding boring or hard jobs and allows you to focus on things which are more suitable for you. It allows liberating you from your monotonous routine with a variety of projects.
Conversely, multitasking requires excessive tolerance power to deal with different fields of life at the same time. This could lead to fast switching which can slow us down or cause errors in our work. I remember one of my colleagues facing exhaustion and fatigue trying to cope up maintaining a household and workload altogether but It also served her with the benefits of flexibility, stability and productivity where she got habituated and lived a comfortable life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the benefits of outsourcing tasks and the perspective of doing them oneself. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The introduction is overly abstract and slightly confusing in its phrasing, which obscures your clear position. While you provide relevant examples, such as the housewife scenario, the discussion on multitasking in the third paragraph is a bit tangential to the core question of whether people 'should' do these things themselves. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly answers the prompt's questions with more focused, logical arguments rather than general philosophical statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is sometimes mechanical. You use some cohesive devices like 'Conversely' and 'For instance', but the transitions between sentences within paragraphs can feel disjointed. For example, the jump from the housewife example to the general statement about outsourcing in the second paragraph lacks a smooth logical bridge. Additionally, the concluding sentence is incomplete and fails to summarize the main points effectively, which disrupts the overall coherence of the response. Improving the use of referencing and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the logical progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary, attempting some sophisticated terms like 'endowment', 'opulent', and 'monotonous'. However, there are instances where word choice is slightly unnatural or imprecise, such as 'deduce up the full topic' (which is non-standard) and 'tolerance power'. Some collocations are also slightly off, such as 'working upon one’s own will'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and natural control required for higher bands. Focusing on learning common collocations and ensuring words are used in their correct context will help improve your score in this area.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is a positive step. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally hinder the flow. For instance, 'I contend to work upon my own frame of time' is awkward, and 'cope up maintaining' is grammatically incorrect (it should be 'cope with'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrases throughout the text. While these errors rarely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures will be beneficial.
