Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a significant number of working professionals hire a domestic helper for their house or a nanny to take care of their children because in their absence someone can take care of their houses and children. Although, it is a good way of providing employment to others, it may rise some serious concerns such as robbery and theft.

One major reason why people employ a domestic helper or a nanny is that they can take care of their house and children in their absence. This because parents sometimes spend half of their day in the office and since they can not take their children to the office, the best way is to employ somebody to do their duties. For instance, if parents have a toddler at home and they also need to attend the office, a nanny can help them to feed and do other necessary thing for their child. As a result, parents can focus on their work which will ultimately provide a better livelihood to a child.

However, I believe people should manage to do these things themselves to maintain a strong relationship bond with their children and to maintain a safety of their house. This is because parents can learn about their responsibilities with a child such as feeding and cleaning. For example, when a child finds nanny besides him every time, he cries to have a nanny even in his parents presence. Therefore, it weakens a parents-child bond. As as result, a child will also look for his parents instead of looking for a nanny.

In conclusion, although a nanny or a domestic helper can help people to take care of their child or home in their absence, it is also a serious concern about the safety. Therefore, employing an unknown can increase risk of privacy of the house and safety of a child.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing employment and the question of whether people should perform these tasks themselves. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the 'safety' of the house is mentioned in the introduction and conclusion but lacks specific, well-developed examples or reasoning in the body paragraphs to fully support the claim. The discussion on the parent-child bond is better developed, but the overall depth of the essay could be improved by exploring the economic or social implications of domestic employment more thoroughly to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'However', 'For instance', and 'Therefore', which help guide the reader through the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'This is because' to start sentences. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'it may rise some serious concerns' in the introduction, where the pronoun 'it' does not clearly refer back to a specific noun phrase. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'livelihood' and 'professionals'. However, there are several word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'rise some serious concerns' (should be 'raise'), 'do other necessary thing' (should be 'things'), and 'maintaining a safety of their house' (should be 'maintaining the safety'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the range and precision of the language used.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('a parents-child bond', 'a child'), subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage. For example, 'when a child finds nanny besides him' is missing articles, and 'As as result' contains a typo. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring consistent use of articles and pluralization.
