Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary epoch, people are leading a busy life, following a hectic schedule. Sometimes, in order to maintain a balance between work-life and a personal-life, it is possible to provide money for the household chores or looking after children if one do not have time to do or do not want to do those works. However, this is a good way to generate a job opportunity for others who are in need. Apart from this, if person have desk job, he/she should do these works themselves considering these as an physical activities to make their physic fit.

To begin with, paying others to do household chores not only provide a job to others but also provide a spare time to spend with family. Since person is not doing extra work besides work place, one can utilize it in leisure activities or introduce new hobbies to be more productive. For nurturing children, one need to involve so much time from changing clothes to potty training, this can be done by nanny if they hire one by paying; therefore, one can have extra time so in the meantime they can teach their children important skills at this young age of their life.

In contrary, the less physical activity by not doing these works, the higher the chance of obesity. To illustrate, person with the desk job are not really involved in such physical task at work place, apart from this, they are not doing any household activities, are leading a sedantary lifestyle, which ultimately leads to obesity. For not looking after children, can break parent-child relationship sometimes. Hence, it is not always necessary to pay somebody to perform household task or to look after children.

To conclude, if it is in benefit for both who are paying and who is doing household chores and nurturing child, it is good to invest money on it rather doing it by itself.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the economic benefit of hiring help and the personal implications of doing tasks oneself. The position is clear, though the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. For instance, the argument regarding physical fitness is relevant but could be more deeply explored. The conclusion is a bit brief and could have better synthesised the main points. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task, but the depth of analysis is limited, placing it firmly in the 6.0 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In contrary', and 'Hence' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or misused, such as 'In contrary' (should be 'In contrast'). Referencing is generally clear, though there are occasional lapses in flow between sentences. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary epoch' and 'sedentary lifestyle'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'provide money for the household chores' instead of 'pay for household services' and 'make their physic fit' instead of 'improve their physical fitness'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise word usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'if one do not have time', 'if person have desk job') and article usage (e.g., 'as an physical activities'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly run-on or lack necessary commas. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the errors do not significantly impede the reader's understanding of the arguments presented.
