Should people do these things themselves?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people nowadays opt to pay somone else to do personal things such as house chores rather than doing themselves, which should not always be done. It is totally dependent on persons lifestyle, affordability and time management.

First of all, when living with family, they can share household duties to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. It would save a lot of money for a middle class family and also make people aware of what effort it takes to do them. Even many people learn basic plumbing, electronic and carpentering skills to repair personal items, because in developed countries such as US, they are entitled to basic hourly pay rates which costs more for light fixes.

However, sometimes people opt for this services because they might not have enough personal time for themselves. But as I said earlier, affordability is the issue depending on the region and convenience for them. Unfortunately, when it comes to looking after younger childrens it might be an option to book nanny services, if both the parents are working. It definitely affects the child behaviour in long run, due to love and care is not properly recieved from the family. In such situations people helping with this duties are surely payed well and gives better job opportunity.

In conclusion, I would say that performing basic personal duties serves best for our own mind and body with the feeling of satisfaction. While paying for them is not a suitable idea unless some professional expertise is needed to perform the tasks, such as taking care of autistic childrens.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether this is a good way to provide work and whether people should perform these tasks themselves. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you touch upon the economic benefits of hiring help and the personal satisfaction of doing chores, the arguments lack depth. For instance, the discussion on childcare is a bit brief and could have been expanded with more specific examples or a clearer stance on the societal implications. The position is generally clear, but the conclusion introduces a new point about professional expertise that was not fully integrated into the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure each main idea is supported by a clear explanation and a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'However', and 'In conclusion' to link your thoughts. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of household chores and childcare feels slightly abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is a bit unclear, such as the use of 'this services' and 'this duties', which should be pluralized to match the nouns they refer to. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'time management', 'affordability', and 'professional expertise'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'do personal things' instead of 'perform personal tasks' and 'light fixes' instead of 'minor repairs'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'somone' and 'payed' (should be 'paid'), and grammatical errors in word form, such as 'younger childrens' (should be 'children'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct word forms and spelling throughout your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'paying for them is not a suitable idea unless some professional expertise are needed'), article usage, and pluralization (e.g., 'autistic childrens'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas that would help clarify meaning. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with plural nouns and verb agreement, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures with greater precision.
