Student answer (Band 7.0)

These days, since most of the family members are working, they do not get enough time to look after their household chores, or their young-ones. Therefore, they prefer hiring someone to assist them in balancing their work-life balance. I firmly believe that this way is absolutely fine, and could also help others in getting jobs.

To begin with, hiring people for household assistance is considered quite helpful nowadays due to a myriad number of reasons. Most importantly, unlike previous times, even women in most of the homes are bread earners. Thus, it significantly gets hard especially for the women to look after their household chores, and kids as well. Consequently, it could lead to various issues at homes, which could turn into a serious fights among couples or family members. Perhaps, getting a help from someone is substantially helpful in preventing such clashes, and even children could get extra care they require to finish their homework, and to play with someone.

Moving forward, this technique also works well for people, who are looking for employment opportunities. To exemplify, there are some trained Personal Support Workers (PSW's), who tends to take care of elderly people in a better way. Eventually, getting their assistance would make it easier for the family to balance their daily life, and can also help in improving the quality of life of seniors. As a result, also giving employment to someone deserving.

On the other hand, if individuals are able to take care of their work and family simultaneously, it is wonderful. This can seemingly enable them to keep fit, and stay engaged in different activities all the time, which could act as a prophylactic to various mental health problems, such as depression.

In conclusion, although some people are courageous enough to tackle with their professional and personal lives, getting help from others is not a big deal. This could likely help both the job seekers, and the families', who need assistance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: whether hiring help is a good way to provide work and whether people should do these tasks themselves. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of dual-income households and the benefits for job seekers. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding the personal benefits of doing chores yourself is a bit brief. To reach a higher band, you could expand on the psychological or developmental benefits of doing household tasks personally, perhaps by discussing the sense of responsibility or family bonding that might be lost when outsourcing these duties.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Moving forward,' and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as the possessive apostrophe error in 'families', who need assistance.' Paragraphing is used appropriately, and there is a clear progression of ideas throughout the text, which makes the essay easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'bread earners,' 'prophylactic,' and 'employment opportunities' show an attempt to use less common items. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'a myriad number of reasons' is redundant, and 'tackle with' is incorrect (it should be 'tackle'). Additionally, 'young-ones' is not standard English. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching the higher bands where more sophisticated and natural control is required.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, 'it significantly gets hard' is awkward phrasing, and 'who tends to take care' contains a subject-verb agreement error (it should be 'who tend'). There is also an unnecessary comma in 'As a result, also giving employment to someone deserving.' Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the range of structures is sufficient to convey your arguments effectively.
