IELTS Writing Task 2 question
It is sometimes possible to pay somebody to do things you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, for example, household chores or looking after children.
Is this a good way of providing work for others?
Should people do these things themselves?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
People especially from this generation are extremely busy with their personal life and do not have time to tend to some basic household duties, and end up paying someone else to do the same. In my opinion, it provides a living for others but, these things can be done by themselves.
Firstly, the society needs to realize that work starts from home, and is not only limited to companies and offices. Small things that require attention are very important than big things that do not. Prioritizing tasks at their house plays a key role in the well-being of their family. For instance, me and my father make sure that we do our own laundry at home, instead of spending money by hiring a third person. This is how I learnt that managing your own things is as significant as balancing your needs.
Another advantage of completing our responsibilities ourselves is that, it designs us to be highly organized and tidy. These skills will prove to be of severe importance later on, when required. Everyday, I make sure that I check my shelves in the kitchen. If something is running low, such as, snacks and drinks, I make a run to the supermarket and purchase them. In this way, I achieved knowing about situational awareness.
Tiny droplets make an ocean. The changes you imply at home will always aid you to outrank yourself. So, I conclude by saying that, with great responsibility comes a greater amount of power, and with strength comes success.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development is somewhat limited. While you provide a clear opinion, the discussion on whether this is a 'good way of providing work for others' is underdeveloped. You mention it provides a living, but do not explore the economic or social implications of this service industry in depth. The second part of the prompt—whether people should do these things themselves—is better supported with personal examples, such as doing laundry and managing kitchen supplies. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument receive balanced, detailed exploration rather than relying heavily on personal anecdotes.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Another advantage' to signal transitions. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly abrupt. For instance, the final paragraph uses a proverb that does not connect smoothly to the preceding argument about kitchen management. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph builds logically toward your conclusion without relying on abrupt shifts in topic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'significant', 'prioritizing', and 'situational awareness'. However, there are some instances of awkward phrasing or imprecise word choices, such as 'it designs us to be highly organized' (which is not a standard collocation) and 'achieved knowing about'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, focus on learning collocations—words that naturally go together—and avoid using overly simplistic structures to express complex ideas.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'is very important than' (should be 'more important than'), 'me and my father' (should be 'my father and I'), and 'The changes you imply' (likely meant 'implement'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your point, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of comparative structures.
