Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing work for others and the argument for doing tasks oneself. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding the economy is stated as a general claim without specific explanation of how hiring a cleaner or nanny directly impacts global economic ratios. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack depth and specific examples that would elevate the response. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning by explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind your points rather than just stating them.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', to link your points. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the referencing is slightly unclear, such as in the phrase 'due to these characteristics' in the first paragraph, which does not clearly refer back to a specific antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next will help improve the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'unemployment ratio' and 'household chores'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'prone to spend their money in different things' (should be 'on') and 'these all activities has been performed'. The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic sentence structures and repetitive vocabulary. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('These all activities has been performed'), incorrect article usage ('an enough experience'), and awkward prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions. Proofreading for these specific types of errors before finishing your task will significantly improve your accuracy.
