Student answer (Band 7.0)
While many people believe that there is nothing wrong with hiring someone to do household chores or look after children, especially when people struggle with time management, hiring someone to complete domestic tasks ultimately promotes employment opportunities. However, individuals should be encouraged to take a balanced approach instead of relying too heavily on a hired person to do tasks.
One of the primary reasons why employing somebody to perform household tasks is beneficial is that it fosters career opportunities. This is largely attributed to the fact that many individuals belong to disadvantaged families. To elaborate, people with underprivileged backgrounds cannot afford higher education, which acts as a stepping stone for career growth. For this reason, people who belong to those categories eventually look for domestic jobs such as taking care of children or cleaning jobs. For example, in India, it is common to hire someone to do household tasks or sometimes to look after children. Thus, this trend not only contributes to creating employment for middle-class families but also encourages wealthy families to spend quality time with their family members. Therefore, this example shows that hiring someone to do cleaning tasks promotes work-life balance for families.
On the other hand, people should be motivated enough to perform household tasks whenever they have leisure time. This is mainly because relying solely on someone else to do tasks promotes a lethargic lifestyle. To explain further, if people are not involved in regular domestic tasks, they will eventually forget valuable domestic skills, such as cooking, gardening, and more. As a result, people will struggle with self-reliance because they will always rely on someone else to do their tasks without worrying about their financial budget. For instance, in Western countries, many affluent families hire people to clean their homes on an hourly basis. Consequently, this trend often contributes to a sedentary lifestyle and overspending. Hence, people should maintain a balanced approach when using professional services and handling household tasks.
In conclusion, although people in this fast-paced era hire someone to complete household tasks, thereby promoting job opportunities, they should take a balanced approach instead of relying too heavily on others; people should still involve themselves in household tasks.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt clearly. You have taken a balanced position, arguing that while hiring help provides employment, individuals should maintain personal involvement in household tasks. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the link between domestic employment and socioeconomic mobility. The example regarding India provides a concrete illustration of the first point, while the discussion on 'lethargic lifestyles' effectively supports the second. The response is consistent throughout, and the conclusion successfully synthesizes the main arguments. To reach a higher band, ensure that the link between 'overspending' and the argument about 'doing things yourself' is more explicitly connected to the prompt's focus on the value of self-reliance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs, and a summary conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To elaborate,' 'For this reason,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Consequently,' which help guide the reader. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two sides of the argument. The referencing is generally clear, though some transitions could be slightly more sophisticated to improve the flow between sentences within the paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the task. Phrases like 'socioeconomic mobility' (implied through 'stepping stone for career growth'), 'fast-paced era,' and 'sedentary lifestyle' show an ability to use less common lexical items. There is a good awareness of collocation, such as 'fosters career opportunities' and 'maintain a balanced approach.' While the vocabulary is sufficient and precise, it occasionally leans on slightly repetitive phrasing (e.g., 'household tasks' is used frequently). Incorporating more varied synonyms for 'tasks' or 'hiring' would enhance the lexical sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You use subordinate clauses effectively, such as 'While many people believe that...' and 'If people are not involved in regular domestic tasks, they will eventually...'. The grammar is generally accurate, with very few errors that impede communication. Punctuation is used correctly to manage the flow of ideas. To improve, ensure that subject-verb agreement and article usage remain consistent throughout, as there are minor instances where phrasing could be tightened for better impact.
