Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a lot of people are favouring to pay household helpers to do cleaning or taking care after children. Due to shortage of time and recession, people are hiring others to complete this work. On the other hand, people should do fundamental household duties as it keeps them fit and strengthen the bond between family members.

Firstly, due to current geo-technical situtation, the prices of grocery, oil and gas, clothes and education are skyrocketing. It’s forcing parents to work more to full-fil the fundamental requirements. Which is creating shortage of time to complete household activities such as cooking, cleaning, gardening and looking after children more difficult. To overcome this problem, people are hiring professional household helpers. I believe this a great way to provide financial support to others, as surviving in this economy is harder than ever before.

On the other hand, people should allocate few hours every weekend to clean house and gardening. They should spend few hours everyday in the evening with their children, to connect emotionally and strengthen bond with the children. Which eventually helps parents to stay physically active and accumulate more money.

To conclude, providing work to others is a great way to earn more money and economic support to others. In this modern world, due to time constrains and demanding lifestyle, people should allow other’s to help with basic household activities. In addition, they shall allocate hours for family bonding everyday. However, it will depend on the mindsets of people that which view they are in favour of at the end of the day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of outsourcing household tasks and the argument for doing them personally. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention economic support and time constraints, the arguments could be more thoroughly extended with specific examples or deeper analysis. For instance, the link between hiring help and 'accumulating more money' is not clearly explained. The position is clear throughout, but the conclusion introduces a slightly contradictory note by suggesting it depends on 'mindsets' rather than summarizing the main arguments presented. To reach a higher band, ensure each point is fully supported with logical reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some issues with referencing and flow. For example, the sentence 'Which is creating shortage of time...' is a sentence fragment that lacks a clear subject, and the transition between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. The use of pronouns and linking words is generally effective, but the overall progression could be smoother to ensure a more natural flow between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'skyrocketing', 'fundamental requirements', and 'demanding lifestyle'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'geo-technical situation' (likely meaning economic), 'full-fil' (spelling error), and 'allow other’s to help'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and expanding your range of topic-specific vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and sentence fragments. For example, 'Which is creating shortage of time...' and 'Which eventually helps parents...' are fragments that should be connected to the preceding independent clause. Additionally, there are minor errors such as 'allocate few hours' (should be 'a few') and 'other's' (incorrect possessive). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your intended meaning.
