Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is increasingly common for people to pay to others to do their household chores and looking after their children due to their busy schedule. Although it creates the employment opportunity, I believe that people still should do some responsibilities themselves by completing their other work.

On the one hand, hire someone to complete their work like household chores creates the employment. Many people earn for their living by offering cleaning, dishwashing , babysitting jobs and many more. Not only full time workers, but also students earn some money by doing then part time job. For example , busy families can hire the cleaner and provide them regular income which is the beneficial for both employer and employees.

On the other hand, people should perform some tasks themselves. There are some duties which cannot be transferred to others. People should spend some quality some time with children, which helps the children share their personal thoughts and feeling and learn some important knowledge from their parents. Moreover, performing some household tasks become independent and can save money for their other work. For example, an international student saves their money by doing most household chores themselves and spend this money on their study.

In conclusion, although paying others for doing their works creates the job opportunities would be beneficial for the employer and workers, I believe that they should perform themselves some duties like looking their children and teach some valuable knowledge after completing their work or cook and clean their home which become them independent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of providing work for others and the necessity of performing tasks oneself. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the benefits of doing chores oneself is a bit repetitive, focusing primarily on saving money rather than exploring the psychological or developmental benefits of domestic responsibility. While the response covers all parts of the task, the supporting examples could be more detailed to reach a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining a consistent stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Moreover' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or awkward, such as in the final sentence of the conclusion, which is grammatically disjointed and makes the progression of ideas less smooth. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall structure would benefit from more sophisticated linking phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but these are occasionally used with inaccuracies, such as 'performing some household tasks become independent' (should be 'makes one independent'). The range is sufficient to discuss the topic, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'doing then part time job' and 'looking their children'. Improving word choice and ensuring correct grammatical forms for these terms would enhance the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the cleaner'), prepositions ('looking their children'), and verb forms ('performing some household tasks become independent'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'paying others for doing their works creates the job opportunities would be beneficial'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
